Located on the banks of the poetic Thu Bon River, in central Quang Nam province, 30 kilometers south of Da Nang, Hoi An ancient town is an Eastern oriental classic captivation. With the strategic location on the banks of the great river, with one seaside border (East), it used to be one of the major trading centers in Southeast Asia during the 16th century due to the early western trader occupying period.

release of lanterns to the river

It was fun and kinda magical -lots of small lights on the river twinkling - reminded me of our(Japanese) festival, OBON in Japan.

Beautiful, elegant, serenely enchanting. This is the place where everyone can indulge their culinary and fashion sense's to the full. Also those who enjoy markets and bartering will be in their element. Let's also mention the architecture, absolutely amazing.... a photographer's paradise. Oh .....and if that's not enough...take a boat trip .....and best of all everything is very affordable. You... More

Not quite what I expected , mailing just souvenir shops and restaurants/bars/coffee . I was on a group tour at night , might be better in the daytime going alone

Really what I expected from Vietnam. Feels authentic and relaxed and looks very pretty. It's cleaner than most parts of Vietnam and there is no motorised traffic allowed for the most parts of the day so it's nowhere near as hectic as many parts of the country. You have to pay a little to see the main attractions but it's... More

We stayed eight nights in Hoi An. It was a very relaxing, gentle place with lots to see and do. We really enjoyed the nearby Anbang beach and had some lovely clothes made at A Dong silk.

This is a very pretty town. My interest was in the architecture and people watching rather than the shopping. Make sure you also visit at night time as the colored lanterns reflect beautifully on the water.

A lovely town full of shops, restaurants, a market and some sights. Lovely, that is except for the fact it is a tourist trap. Not only do you get hassled beyond belief by vendors and street sellers but they also charge you first for the privilege. The entrance ticket is apparently for preservation of the historic sights in the old... More

This is a must visit place if you are within striking distance. We were staying in Da Nang and took a taxi to here for the evening. It's absolutely beautiful. The town is on both sides of the river, there's also a lively market too. Loads of restaurants and bars, very colourful with the small streets full of lanterns. The... More

Ancient Hoi An town is one of the most well preserved historical sites. Gives a great insight into the architecture and way of life of the era. The town especiaaly comes to life post sunset. An absolute must visit for anyone going to Vietnam
