About
Discover the tunnels and grottoes within Thuy Son, the only one of the five Marble Mountains that’s open to travelers. Marvel at the Buddhist temples carved into the rock, then head to the hilltop overlook for awe-inspiring views of the city. Join a guided tour to learn more about the history of the mountains. To reach the summit, take the elevator or climb the stairs; if you choose to do the latter, be very careful as the marble steps tend to be slippery. Visit early in the morning or later in the day to escape the midday heat and beat the crowds. – Tripadvisor

- ShannonMelbourne, Australia1,158 contributionsSurprisingly GreatMy expectations were certainly exceeded coming to this place. The cave area is relatively large even though it's close to downtown. The religious temples, statues and pagodas are all in great condition. All walking trails lead to great viewpoints of the surrounding area the best viewpoints are more difficult to hike to due to them being much higher. If you have enough time don't bother taking the elevator because you pay each time you use it.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten January 21, 2024
- gydavSaint-Leu-la-Foret, France992 contributionsVery poorly organized on site and average interest.I came by taxi, unfortunately not to the right ticket counter. Number 1 doesn't sell them and the staff doesn't speak English. I find the other office where they give you tickets and a map without explanation. You have to queue for the elevator. At 11.00 a.m. allow 40 minutes. At the top there are some temples and caves without any interest. Only the main cave at the end of the circuit is worth the visit. Here too, plan a visit at dawn or at the end of the day.Visited January 2024Travelled soloWritten January 28, 2024
- SuneFredericia, Denmark38 contributionsThis is one of those things you definitely should do when visiting Da NangI visited the Marble Mountains with my wife and our baby. While this was one of our favorite experiences in Da Nang I would not suggest visiting here with a baby or small children in general. I hat my daughter in a carrier strapped to my chest and we did manage to climb to one if the peaks over hard jagged rocks. In hindsight probably not the most save activity to do with a 9 month old strapped to you, but was however a beautiful climb. The place offers an elevator but it only goes 1/3 of the way up. So if you want the full experience you will need to climb some stairs no matter what. It does get pretty steep at times but on the way you'll see a lot of beautiful statues, caves and temples. I would say most people in normal shape will be able to make it to the top. But if you have trouble getting around I would not visit here.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten January 28, 2024
- Johnny G14 contributionsEnjoyed the caves & great short 2-3 hour day trip from Danang , especially if then going to Hoi An.Easy 2-3 hour excursion from Danang. Can do it yourself by booking a Grab so no need for an organised package. It’s enroute from Danang to Hoi An , so would recommend Marble Mountains & then head to Hoi A for the evening lanterns on the river. Marble Mountains has some nice caves , pagodas & small temples. Best bits are the caves. Avoid the elevator , long queue for it & only takes you up a small section which we walked in 10 mins. Some of the steps on Marble Mountain higher up are quite steep but doable.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 11, 2024
- Victor SCalgary, Canada19 contributionsPick up your garbage folks!Nice place..but its a real shame about all the garbage left lying around. Why do people think it's ok to just leave your trash wherever you want? Too bad the administration does not see fit to provide a few more garbage cans. Supposed to be a National Treasure but not treated as such. Kinda ruined it for me.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 16, 2024
- Dreamon21Hong Kong, China83 contributionsA place worth going if you have time and moneyWe joined a day tour during Tet to this Marble Mountain and a few other places from Da Nang. Everything was included in our tour fees including a hefty Tet surcharge (but excluding extra tips for the tour guide and bus driver which is expected). I think it is worthwhile to join a tour as you will not be harrassed by parking or touting if you go by yourself. Everything was smooth with a reputable tour. I give it a 3 star though because the steps are huge, slippery and dangerous and it is not just a few steps but hundreds of steps up and down like around 600 or more altogether. For those with short or weak legs (small kids and elderly) it is not advisable to climb but there is a lift service with an additional fee which is reasonable at 10,000 VND. If you like temples you may appreciate this place but if you don't there is nothing much to look at except for its history and how it survived the war. There is a scenic view from the lookout point on top of the mountain. If you want to buy genuine marble crafts you should buy them from the factory stores nearby the mountain. Our guide brought us to one of the factories nearby for a 5-minute toilet break but didn't give us time to buy anything from there although I saw some skilled marble crafts that are hand made that are worth buying for that price. I still regretted not having it. If you are interested about real marble crafts do go to the factories around that area but not the shops in Marble Mountain for they sell cheap souvenirs.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten February 19, 2024
- なるNara, Japan12 contributionsrecommendationRecommended for sightseeing in Da Nang and Hoi An. There is an elevator, but you can also climb the stairs. Please visit the deepest cave when the light is coming in. It will take about 2 to 3 hours to go around the whole cave.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 27, 2024
- Coyote-TravelerzJacksonville, Florida3,036 contributionsGo with CAREWe throughly enjoyed going here and seeing the monuments. It’s a unique, beautiful place only a short distance from downtown Da Nang. A few notes before you go: Stairs - There are 100s of them in all shapes and sizes and they can get slippery. I agree with others you should not visit if you have trouble with them. Crowds - It can get VERY busy. Patience (especially in the stairs) can be required at times. Time of Day - To maximize the experience, know when the sun will approach or be over the cave to create the light rays (seen in most ads).Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 28, 2024
- mzzyap3,418 contributionsNot the best, but still interestingWe made it! It's a hike up and down uneven steps, not recommended for older folks like us. The 15,000 Dong elevator only goes halfway up the trek, so you'll still need to walk farther if you want to explore the place. Be forewarned that the elevator shuts down at 5 PM, so plan accordingly.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 2, 2024
- b2runOntario, Canada283 contributionsNot Overwhelming but worth the visitIt's a couple of dollars to get in, another dollar if you want to take the elevator, another dollar if you want to visit the big cave. The steps are steep, irregular, and some are slippery so it's not a good place if you have mobility issues. There are many pagodas and cool little nooks. There are also a number of caves. To get to the top, the heaven's gate, it's a bit of a tight squeeze. The large cave only has the waterfalls during the rainy season. Even though it's a major tourist attraction, it wasn't that busy. The climb up to heaven's gate was the only bottleneck. There are a couple of great views but most have the city of Danang in the background.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 11, 2024

Went there with my family to enjoy the hill and you are immediately grabbed by people selling crafts. There is a charge to use the elevator both up and a separate charge to use it to come down. There is also an entrance charge and they won’t even allow you to take a photo unless you have paid for it all. Once you are up the mountain (about 5 stories) you are once again accosted by guides forcing themselves on you and then demanding money. I’d take a hard pass on this one.

We were on a group tour of about 18 people. This was one of our stops when we were heading from Hoi An to Hue (all in the same day). I am very glad we got here early how it was just starting to get really warm. Its a long way up and some of the stairs are very tall. We all split up and went our own way to see what was most important to us. There is so much to see here. Marble mountain consists of five marble & limestone hill and are named after the 5 elements. There are amazing statues, caves, temples and carving in the mountain. The view are also incredible.
It cost around 40,000VND ($2.35CAD) to enter Mount water. It also cost the same to enter Hell Cave. There is also an optional Elevator Fee of 15,000VND ($0.90CAD) per person/per ride. We didn’t take the Elevator Option. I do wish that we had taken the guide so we didn’t get lost in the short amount of time we were there for. The guide was 50,000VND ($3CAD). We only had an hour and a half at the marble mountains which was not even close to enough time. I would say you need a minimum of 3 hours to be able to take your time and really enjoy yourself. But the time we were leaving it was starting to get busy. Glad we got there when we did. I believe it was around 9am.
There are lots of shops around the bottom of the mountain selling carvings out of the stone from the mountains. There is also a few restaurants and corner stores to get something quick to eat before heading to your next location. The locals were all very friendly as you passed by.
I can not wait to go back and see all of this fantastic location.

This must be the far away No. 1 attraction for tourists visiting Danang. You must not miss it. The mountain is not high so taking the steps will be the wise choice even lift is available for a fee. Compared to other attraction entry fee in this city, climbing Marble Mountains has the best value. Stairs may be uneven but it's manageable if you climb up slowly. The caves were popular as they were the rare excitement at this peaceful attraction. One or two caves require very strong legs to climb up though so be aware (no worry by the younger ones) before entering the one way path as the path is narrow and steep so it's hard to withdraw and return. Allowing 2 hours here should be quite adequate.

Marble mountain is mid way between Danang & Hoi An. So we booked a cab from our hotel in Hoi An to Danang city with a stop over at the Marble Mountains.
You can opt to walk up the steps which can be really tiring or pay 15k VND & take the elevator (one way).
The moment you get off the elevator, you are welcomed by an awesome view with the beach on one side & the city view on the other with mountains.
There are beautiful caves with statues in stone as well as marble. You can also buy statues & other souvenirs made from marble from the shops below in the area (although our driver had told us not to buy from the shops around as the marble quality wasn't that good).
A bit of advise: Please wear good sturdy shoes if you want to climb up into the steep caves.

This is a great place with a climb that may be hard for people with mobility issues. There are caves and religious statues that are worth seeing but beware of the merchants and their wares. The prices are exorbitant and there is a person who will track you in the main store until you leave, probably to assist but is there to sell.

We hired a grab and taxi to take us all over here he area for two days.
You have to pay to enter the mountain to explore the caves. There is an option to pay to ride a lift to the top. I am recommend that you buy the lift ticket as the stairs in the cave are doable, yet slippery and exhausting.

Our morning tour with our guide Mr Ken (Tommy Dao Tours - HoiAn) began at 8am. Stopped of at a marble workshop/showroom then headed to Marble Mountain. Get there early to avoid the crowds. The caves were amazing and quite easy to access so long as you can do stairs. The glass lift up the mountain is great, it’s all leg work after that, including the descent to ground level. Having a knowledgeable guide is a must. We were able to learn about all the statues, caves, temples and many other details that are not well sign posted for tourists wandering the cave areas without guides. Having a private tour guide like Mr Ken made our visit much more informative and gave us a great understanding about the history of the mountains. We then headed to the Dragon Bridge in Danang for a few photos and then The Lady Buddha site for another well informed tour which includes a few chance meeting with some monkeys! Well worth a visit if you are around Danang and/or HoiAn. Our tour was a 1/2 day that was completed with a beautiful Vietnamese lunch in HoiAn. Thank you Tommy Dao Tours & Mr Ken.

The 5 craggy tops are a major tourist attraction and therefore very busy, even though we visited late in the day. That said we really enjoyed the visit. There is an elevator to take you part way up the crag or a couple of paths. Inside the mountain are a series of natural caves containing Hindu and Buddist shrines. The largest with a large Buddha statue was a Viet Cong hospital in the American War. There are also great views from the highest point on Thuy Son, which we had to ourselves. Around the mountains are the usual stalls selling tourist stuff and lots of statues with most of the stone imported from China.

My wife and I booked a private tour of Marble Mountain through our hotel, the La Siesta, in Hoi An.
Our guide, pronounced Home, was excellent.
Our tour started with a brief stop at one of the family marble carvers. They had an amazing collection of statues and other art delicately and lovely card from different types of marble. I wish we had room to have one of these in our yard because they were really some of the most beautiful statues I’ve ever seen.
But the real value of this tour started once we taking the elevator to the top of the mountain. After that followed one amazing setting after another. From pagoda to cave to Budda and temple then again and again it seems like we couldn’t get any more amazed until we were.
It’s one of those places were pictures no matter how good simply do not do it justice.
We highly, highly recommend the store to anybody who is in the area.

This is a popular site with lots of visitors, but it is worth the time to experience the wonders of this area. I was impressed by the temples, pagodas, statues, ponds, caves and beautiful views. Take the elevator to the top.

Is this a beginner friendly hike?

Is it necessary to book a tour at The Marble Mountains or you just get a ticket and wander around on your own? In the latter case will 2-3 hours suffice?
Written January 7, 2023
No tour required . There’s a good map and I just walked in and bought a ticket. Spent about 2 hours there and lots of little tracks to explore if you’re fit ( some very steep)

Is one hour long enough to have a good visit to the Marble Mountains?
Written November 14, 2022
I don't think so. You wouldn't get the full experience and there's a lot to see and take in. I'd recommend at least a couple of hours.

My wife and I are planning a trip to Vietnam next year (Mar 2023) and one of the excursions included is a climb of Marble Mountain from Da Nang. However, my wife had polio as a child and has a walking difficulty so we are concerned about whether she would cope with this or not? She manages to get around fine on her own and up and down stairs and hills okay with an arm to hold on to. We have travelled a lot over the years and she managed India and associated site seeing perfectly okay.
Any pointers would be gratefully received!

You can take the elevator up. But there are lots of steps to get into and out of the caves and they can be steep with no handrails. There are also steps from section to section outdoors. Again, they can be steep but there aren't steps - maybe 6 max. at one section.
If it's wet, I wouldn't recommend as it would be slippery. But if she has an arm to hold, she may be ok. And if you're both ok with it, she can wait for you outside some of the caves while you go in.
My main concern would be other people - I would imagine that when busy, there will be many others there and as we all know, people can be pushy, self absorbed and so attached to their phones and selfies that they pose a risk to the safety of others.

Is the cave entrance included in marble mountain entrance fee without doing a tour?

Hi
All you pay for is to use the lift. There are stairs which I used so no cost.
Enjoy

I first visited Marble Mountain about 9 years ago. Might visit again as I recall in the shop at the base they sold very nice large coloured stones that would make a good cocktail ring when mounted. I bought one and had made into a ring. Does the shop still sell them, I think they were only about £5 each....?
