As the name of the "attraction" suggests, it is a project working to protect Painted (more commonly, if officially less accurately, Wild) Dogs. It is partly a working set up to research the animals and to look after injured or orphaned dogs. This means you should be able to see one as they are uncommon to encounter in the bush... More

Great center, easy access, if they are open, and you'll learn a ton. Call ahead to see if they are open.

The dwindling figures of the wild dogs is alarming. We added this activity after game drive at Hwange Safari lodge. Only 5km from the safari lodge is this painted dogs "hospital". Get the animal classification of these special dogs and see how they are kept before release into regular natural wild habitat.

Such a well organized facility that provided great eduction on the wild dogs. They are truly amazing animas and provide a lesson on efficiency and leadership in the way they hunt and exist.

This venue has a lot going for it. The dioramas and the story they tell has excellent education and conservation content. They also do a lot of education work with local students and if you take the outdoors tour you are likely to see them (the students) as they learn about painted dogs and the threats they face from human... Excellent a place really worth visiting, even if only to make a donation to help preserve the wild dog. They are such a delightful animal as we not only seen them here but in the wild as well

They have a nice visitor center that tells the story of the dogs, explains the problems facing the dogs & need to protect them. We found the anti poaching informative & had no idea the extent of the snares set to trap animals or that an entire pack of dogs can die in the snares. They have taken some of... More

Very interesting, but I probably would not have gone on my own accord; this place was important to the lodge where we stayed and they took us. Saw one dog who was injured. Understand the hearts behind this effort, but according to the staff, the poaching rate has not gone down in the ten years this place has been around.

We visited Hwange National Park and on our way to Victoria Falls, our driver asked if we would let him see the Painted Dogs. We said certainly and it was simply wonderful. We would have never seen it. They have two dogs in residence. It requires some walking to see the dogs.
