We chose to hike up the Mountain via the supposedly gentler 7 bends trail. On our way down, we thought we tried a different route that appeared to end near the base of the rope way. There were only signs at the beginning of the...More

This elevated forest sanctuary is well within the urban perimeter of Gifu City. During the fall season, this awash-in-autumn-colors mountain will be beguiling. It is likewise so when draped in white during winter time. At other times, the green foliage will nonetheless be a refreshing...More

No one going up to Gifu Castle will miss a ride on this. Do remember to get a Shoryudo Card (from the Tourist Information Centre) to enjoy a bit of discount for the ride.

Needing to shake some jet-lag, I crossed the river from Gifu Miyako Hotel, passed by the not-yet-open rope-way (cable-car) (I would not have used it anyway) and began my ascent. It was not completely clear to a gaijin that the more difficult, shorter path to...More

There is a park at the foot of the mountain which we took some good photos of red leaves, before taking the ropeway to the top. There are a small squirrel garden where you can feed the squirrels which are cute. You can then walk...More

A caveat -- I took the ropeway up and down, and so cannot purport to know most of the walking trail journey is like. The remaining 300m to the castle was exercise enough although I see many people making the full climb. The ropeway is...More

In addition to the observatory deck of the restaurant on top of Mt Kinka, Gifu Castle also offers great views of the Gifu and Kakamigahara citie. To access, there is the Kinkazan Ropeway for 1080 yen. There are hiking routes too to the top.

There is really nothing much this so called mountain has to offer. Besides a small little hut that claimed to be the Gifu palace, nothing else to see, perhaps only a high ground view of Gifu and Nagoya city.
