From the famous (and heavily visited) Higashi Chaya district, it is not too far of a walk up the hills to a series of parks and pathways with some nice surprises, hidden shrines and great views. We accessed the Utatsuyama from the Higashi-chaya district. We walked up into the Utatsuyama area from Higashi Chaya and we are glad we did. It was very quiet and there is an observation area where you can see snow on the mountains. Our only issue was that we didn't have a very good map so couldn't find another way down - we came back the way we walked... More

Mt. Utatsu, or "Utatsuyama", is rumoured to be the highest point in Kanazawa. Apparently, no buildings are allowed to be built taller than Utatsuyama, but I was never able to confirm this (not that Kanazawa has many high-rises).
