Interesting town...easy to get to by bus or train. Not over-run by tourists like other places with castles.

Beautiful castle, 15 minute walk from Matsumoto station. It is great to walk around the castle, the interior is not really worth observing.

Visiting Matsumoto castle is really interesting. The view of the castle around the mote is also quite beautiful and good for photos. I would not recommend visiting if you're uncomfortable with stairs. There are a lot and they are incredibly steep. Keep in mind you'll...More

We visit Matsumoto three or four times a year. Each visit we stop by the castle. It's especially beautiful in the Spring when the cherry tress are in bloom. If you visit the castle itself be prepared to climb many stairs. It's a workout.

Although we came here at night, this Matsumoto Castle was still spectacular and awesome. One should definitely spend some time here at night, especially sitting on the bench and watching the light shed on the castle and its beautiful inverted reflection on water. It was...More

Well worth the entry fee to the gardens as they are very well maintained and provides an excellent spot for photos. The self guided tour inside the castle itself costs extra (around AUD $15.00 from memory) but the displays are great and it is fun...More

I'm not allowed to post website addresses apparently so look up Japan Guide, Alpico Express Bus and Nouhi Bus websites. All very helpful for planning bus trips and I assume you already know about Hyderdia for trains? Really... More
