Somehow managed to spend 5 hours in the area just milling about doing nothing much. A lot of the shops are closed on weekdays so might be better to come on the weekend instead.

I also missed the denim ice cream as most of the eateries are also closed…

Made a mistake of taking an hour long taxi ride from Okayama station instead of taking the train to Kojima. However, as the cab driver dropped us near a quaint cafe and some pretty independent artisanal jeans shops we had a great time. By the time we made tracks for the Kojima train station, we realised that we could have been easily turned off had we arrived by train as we would have seen the bigger boys like Momotaro and Japan Blue first. Not being real jeans enthusiasts we may have been less eager to see the rest of the street. It is not just one single short street but quite a warren of a few streets. However, when we visited on a Friday, not all shops were open. Nevertheless the 2 shops that we found interesting and bought stuff from were good enough for me. I bought a white denim blouse from Denim Closet. Apparently this brand is carried in Bread and Butter Singapore. We certainly did not know how famous Japanese jeans are until we did some pre trip research. My brother bought 2 pairs of jeans from another store which fitted him perfectly - even he was surprised. I would highly recommend anyone with even a fleeting interest in jeans to visit this place. It was also surreal to do jeans shopping in a quaint rustic environment.

The cafe that we had a simple lunch at was a shop cafe which had a very cosy and quaint feel. The food was simple - sandwiches, quiche, udon which was well presented with speed. All in a very comfortable stop including a very clean and nice spelling toilet!

It's interesting but don't prioritize it unless you want to buy Kojima jeans/jean products. They're pretty expensive.

yes, kojima is super famous of jeans but even if you go there, there is nothing interested. I say there is no reason to visit this area.

Stumbled onto the jeans street, and it was pretty fun exploring the 3-4 shops. There’s even a shop that sells denim colored buns and ice cream. The jeans culture is strong in this area as textiles are a big feature here. Look for your next comfortable jeans, denim jacket or even neck tie!

On our last day in Okayama we decided after we had to purchase Japanese jeans.
We used our JR passes to get there after getting on the wrong train, after a couple corrections we finally got there in the mid afternoon. This is the place to buy Indigo Jeans. Because of bad navigation on our part we were only able to scratch the surface. We didn’t get past Big John which is one of the first stores. They actually close early at 5:00pm, so we only had a few hours.
Big John has a huge inventory of jeans and accessories. The knowledgeable sales staff is very friendly and helpful. We ended up buying a couple pairs each in that short time. Now we have to come back on our next trip to see the entire area which consists of most Japanese brands. There is even a museum at the end of the street. Take into consideration that they alter on the spot for no charge.
So buying jeans is not so simple. It’s time consuming.
Like other reviews it was quite slow on the street and void of tourists or buyers?

If you are into cool denim, or would like some fun, rare, unique clothes or items then this is a nice place for you. Unless you are crazy about jeans it might not be worth a trip on its own to Kurashiki, but since it is located in the Bikan area which is fantastic it is convenient to stroll through here

Japan has its own denim industry and has had so for quite a while. Edwin is one of the familiar world wide brands and it all came from Kojima. Buy your denim colored ice cream, buy a jeans book, or a jeans bag.

Basically you see plenty of stores selling jeans and most are priced ave 100-300 .

Else visit If you just want to take (Instagram/snapchat) photo of yourself being there doing tourist thingy

If none of the above is your type of activity, just look at multiple blog of the place and you save time and effort going there .

Dont expect the street to be buzzling like other shopping areas. But you can find many jeans shops along the streets where maps are provided so you know which way to walk around. Once done shopping, you can get some lunches at the Happy Mall (which is very local) that is not far from the jeans street.
