We did not enter into this building past the admission gate but really enjoyed seeing it from the outside. Admission is 500yen. It's in the very popular Motomachi area. The blue and yellow colours of the building make it very attractive and the structure is...More

While walking around Motomachi we passed by this historical building. Looks nice from outside. Well kept. Didn't go in as we didn't think it was worth paying. Spent like 10 minutes walking outside of it. The park in front of it was more interesting in...More

Traditional old house, as it says. Quite a walk up. Must be beautiful when the flowers are in full bloom. Did not quite make it here at night - the view must be much better.

We stumbled into an opera performance on our visit. Quite unexpected to hear opera wafting down the hill! Enjoyed seeing the "throne room" and others (including original furnishings) used by the Emperors.

This is a grand and stately building. When I walked through this museum, I could imagine myself being a noblewoman in the early 20th century. In fact, you can even rent costumes and dress like a noble person and walk the building. The view from...More

The building certainly is eye-catching with its blue and yellow paintwork and striking early 20th Century symmetry. The interior is excellently presented with some explanations provided in English. It is certainly a place that should be visited, along with the interesting churches and other historical...More

This is quite a beautiful early 20th Century building and is a mix of architectural styles. It contains some interesting exhibits- most of which are English captioned. It has magnificent views of Hakodate Harbour from the balcony. It is also in the close proximity of...More
