Otaru Denuki-koji is a small and picturesque food plaza opposite Asakusa Bridge and Tourist Information Centre. I ate crab don and crab miso soup for 2500 yen. The seafood chef was friendly, and when I walked around the food plaza, I saw that the walls had a lot of messages for him with great feedback. This food plaza is worth... More

Stumbled into this little gem by accident. You actually have to do a little exploration in the narrow pathway between the small shops. We were drawn into a cozy Yakitori grill place, where the patron can fit 10 guests around his grill bar. Started out with a few test orders and ended up ordering EVERYTHING on the menu. A super... Otaru Denuki Allay is right smack in the middle of the Main Street by the Canal. The main attraction here has to be the giant Takoyaki they sell really worth a drop by of near

Just bump into this area when walking towards the canal. It is just a normal small places with shops. Perhaps, we have spent a few days in a bigger and brighter town~Sapporo, thus doesn't find this spot attractive.

Whenever you visited the Canal spot, you would find this area cross the main road prior to return to the JR Station. The old structure with short and narrow alleys at the back would not attract visitors any more because they would surely find other alternative sites for eating and shopping. Just a cross-road spot for taking a photo.

It is ok if you are around the area (most likely you will if you are visiting the canal) but the place is overated. It is very small, only a couple of bar and local restaurants. Not very exciting at all.

This conglomerate of ackward "historic" buildings among those short and narrow alleys look more like purpose built, to draw tourists to the small stalls or restaurants there. I do not get a feel of history walking into this area. On the contrary, it makes me feel trapped.

This is a spot not to be missed in Otaru and I rate it over the Otaru canal any day. More interesting and you can spend the entire day there enjoying the food and retail therapy on offer.
