Very unique collection as I have traveled in France, London and Italy, and this is a very specific group of artifacts, furniture, collectibles from the Belle epoque Era. No photos allowed, discount off standard tickets with the hakone free pass or at the ticket counter where you take the pirate ship and Ropeway. Get dropped off at the front gate with the museum sightseeing public bus

I'd read about the top things to do in Hakone before we arrived but this wasn't mentioned. I only found out about it when we arrived at the train station in Gora. We'd caught cable car from our hotel which linked onto the rope way down to Lake Ashi. I then caught the bus to the Lalique museum which provided a great scenic ride and gorgeous view of Mt Fuji. The museum was about 20 min ride and dropped me almost right outside the museum but I had to ask for directions as there's no obvious signs. The museum is an amazing, modern building and contained quite a range of Lalique - the best I've seen. Unfortunately there's not a lot of commentary in English on the items but I was happpy to just see them. The gardens surrounding the museum are serene and there's a lovely cafe on site plus of course a shop. I thoroughly enjoyed the museum and the bus ride to it and to Gora station. You get to see quite a bit of the area. If you buy the museum ticket when you buy the bus ticket it's quite a bit cheaper.

Calling this money-pumping business a museum is a misnomer. Their crass commercialism is reflected in the utter ugliness of their building, a horrid eyesore in a beautiful valley. The windowless building has all the charm of a Walmart warehouse or a locker facility. This cheap institutional box simply kills the views for all it valley neighbors.

As a passionate Lalique fan and collector this was a must see of my trip to Japan.
The museum itself is beautifully designed and situated. On the day we went, a really lovely French lady was working there at the 'gate' and was absolutely charming and chatted with us a while.
The museum itself features a private collection of Lalique that covers all the great man's oevres - from jeweller to glass maker and there are some stunning pieces to be seen. My ONLY disappointment is that only @300 pieces are displayed at any one time out of a collection of 1600. For must people this would probably be enough, but to more keen or avid fans of Lalique it seems a shame - although I appreciate display space wouldn't allow many more to be shown. Each piece is beautifully displayed and lit and the museum is logically laid out too.
we also enjoyed tea on the ex Wagon lits Pullman car they have there - enjoying the wonderful glass panels surrounding us....what a way to travel!
Even if you are not a die hard Lalique fan, the museum is well worth a visit if only to better understand what a true GENIUS Rene Lalique was!

If you only do one museum or gallery in the Hakone region, make this the one. The works are divine, the gallery is a manageable size, and the romantic style garden is lovely to walk in. We had afternoon tea in the Lalique-decorated railway carriage attached to the gallery,. It was a bit pricey but a lot of fun.

The Lalique Museum in Hakone is for me the best attraction in the area. There is another glass museum and a wonderful art gallery in Hakone, but this museum is a stunning homage to one of the world's greatest designers. Lalique's career spanned around seven decades, during which his focus on creations significantly changed. This museum in Hakone carefully and beautifully reflects his works over the years, with exquisite examples of jewelry, furniture, and of course, lots of glass objets d'art. The exhibits are well-displayed with sufficient and appropriate lighting, but the only information displayed is in Japanese. Take your smartphone and read online about the exhibits as you go round. If you like art and design, this museum is a must. It is probably in the world's top three Lalique collections.
Around the museum, there is a train carriage from the Orient Express with design and panelling by Lalique. For a fee (was 2,100 yen) you can enjoy tea in the carriage and feel the mood of a bygone era. Nice to see, but the tea is pretty poor. There is also a restaurant with French menu. The food is well-presented and not bad, but not outstanding. However, there are some good wines as the sommelier seems to know his stuff.
Many people only visit Hakone as an afterthought to a trip to Tokyo. I would recommend at least two days in the area visiting all the sights, finding a good hot spring, and focusing on the Lalique museum. I'll go again.

I love glass artwork and Lalique is the world's best interpreter. Breathtaking beautiful examples of this artist's work.and the museum allows each piece to be presented in it best form. The setting for the museum affords a relaxing time out from the hustle and bustle of Japanese city life. IT is a must seel

It is a bit out of the way [thank goodness for the S bus], but well worth a visit if you love the work of this genius.
It is quite a collection, incorporating work in a wide range of media and of stunning quality.
The garden, too is pretty; being a replica, in miniature, of Monet's.
The buildings are gracious and the lighting of the displays highlights their value as works of art.
Only downside - no photos alllowed

As is often the case; in Japan the setting matters as much as the contents and it looks as if no expense was spared in any detail of this small but beautifully presented collection of Lalique treasures. More large items are shown here than in France; several doors and a part of a beautiful wrought iron outdoor railing. There are also textiles in excellent condition, a rarity. The Pullman train car has an option for taking high tea inside by reservation only. Reservations are taken up to an hour out and the cost is about the same as the admission price to the museum simply ask at reception.
There are combination tickets to other area museums available and are a better value than single entry fees.
The grounds of the museum complex are quite charming and lend themselves to all kinds of photo opportunities while there is no photography allowed inside the museum.
There is a restaurant on site which serves a limited menu at very high prices. The museum gift shop is located on the second floor and offers a range of typical items as well as actual Lalique jewelry and perfumes. If you have seen the Lalique collections in Europe you will not want to miss this.

The museum showcases a lot of Rene Lalique's beautiful work, but sometimes it is just individual pieces by themselves. Better are the displays set up as rooms - with his work as he meant it to be seen.
The cafe served a mediocre lunch - disappointing, although the setting is lovely.
The museum has 2 gift shops - the smaller one featuring Lalique books, etc. but not any reproduction jewelry which we would have liked to buy. The other gift shop is a tacky store with no theme at all - just lots of random items that no-one really needs - and no connection to the museum at all. What were they thinking?
The Orient Express made it all worthwhile, even though there is an extra fee for this. You have to make a reservation on-site, so do that as soon as you arrive, then view the exhibits in the museum and get back to the Orient Express at your reservation time. It was a little bit of luxury to be on an actual Orient Express train car and enjoy a tea service accompanied by an explanation of the train, how it was brought to the site and the Lalique pieces onboard. A great memory.

How much is the adult entry? Thank you.

Hello. I can't remember to be honest but it is on their website. Tea in the Pullman carriage is extra (book when you arrive) but was a nice experience.
There's a lovely French lady there at the gate who speaks excellent English too.
Hope you enjoy it!
