The area as so many interesting temples, if you want to visit temples there is a book you can get listing all the great temples to see in the area and you can get a stamp from most temples to prove you visited. It's an interesting challenge if you have the time and a nice souvenir to take home.

Right near my house. Esoteric Buddhist temple with 800 years of history and fine garden and pond, with lovely arched bridge and entrance gate. Free to enter the grounds, but, in dozens of visits, I've never managed to get or see inside the main temple building. This source of regret is offset by the lovely little local museum right next... More

Shomyo-ji happens to be near where we stay when in Japan, and I make a point to visit on every trip. We can enjoy red lycoris around Syubun-holiday (around 22-23th of September). It is very easy to find lovely landscape with these flowers every suburbs in middle Japan. I found Syoumyouji a remarkable place of fantastic red lycoris with numerous colonies inside and outside of the vast garden.
