For 15,000 yen we had a three-hour private walking tour of Naramachi with Yoshiko Hatcho. She was a superb guide — excellent English, a wealth of knowledge and an enthusiastic manner. Naramachi is fascinating, but you really need a guide to get the most out of it. We told Yoshiko we wanted to treat her to lunch following the tour,... More

This walking tour was wonderful. I went with my husband and three children (ages 11, 10 and 9), along with two others on the tour. Our guide was so enthusiastic and interesting, she kept the pace moving so effectively we hardly noticed the time passing. I am amazed at how much information my children absorbed from the tour - I... More

This walking tour was a fantastic way to spend a few hours learning about the culture and history of Nara. Yoshiko our guide was a pleaure to be with and explained all our questions relevant or irelevent to the tour. She is so knowledgable of the area and her manner of communicating with the group was very professional. This was... More

We really enjoyed this Saturday morning. It was so exciting to follow Mrs Hatcho through the old part of the city of Nara. We learned a lot about the Geisha, old famous houses and gardens, tea secrets and hospitality. After the tour, she helped us to rent bicycles so we can enjoy the park on our own! Very nice and... Most tourists who visit Nara just go to the Daibutsu, feed the deer in Nara Park, and that's about it. They're really missing out on the true heart of Nara. This was one of the best walking tours I've ever had. There were 6 of us total--3 adults and 3 teens. Yoshiko-san was excellent--so knowledgeable and friendly. Even though I've... More

This well planned and well delivered walking tour was an excellent introduction to Nara and to places we would never have discovered on our own. The enthusiastic Yoshiko Hatcho (a teacher of English on weekdays, I understand) runs it every Saturday and for a modest fee she takes small parties through the older parts of town: houses, workshops, temples, shrines,... My wife and I went on this walking tour on Saturday morning and it was a real treat. Yoshiko is a fantastic guide who provides lots of interesting facts and personal anecdotes, talking you through the history of Nara and showing you some hidden gems most tourists would miss! We were lucky enough to be the only 2 people on... More

My parents and I had a lovely time with Yoshiko on the Nara Machi walk. We couldn't do the walk on Saturday so Yoshiko kindly agreed to meet us last Tuesday. She is very warm, funny and passionate and knows a lot of information regarding Nara and the old town. It was very informative and gave us an insight to... More
