We took a bus ( really crowded) from the station to the stop for Todaiji Temple. There is an extensive park to walk through with deer roaming freely. They are not shy and there is deer food available for sale. They are quite persistent when...More

There are temples, shrines, deer, garden and lakes. The walk around the park and the adjoining sights takes a few hours. We spent 3 to 4 hours and didn’t see all of it. Tips; Nara park is about 20 to 25 min walk from the...More

I visited Nara for two days, but felt I only needed one as there is not much to do other than visit the park. It is a nice park but in Japan there are a lot nicer in other places, the only fun thing was...More

Beautiful park full of things to see. The tame deer were great. Some people panicked when feeding deer, possibly because of the biting, kicking signs all over the place. Provided you are prepared to stand still and part with your biscuits quickly rather than waving...More

Quite novel walking in a park with deer happily walking about. Our children (4 & 5) enjoyed feeding the deer, although had to be careful not to knocked over as the deer were keen to get the deer biscuits. A big park - lots of...More

The wild sika deer are great. I wouldn't say they are wild, but friendly. Make sure they bow their head before you let them eat the deer cookie. They will be back for more. The park is enjoyable to walk around.

We had a smashing day at Nara Deer Park. Initially the park seemed crowded with visitors (especially around the biscuit vendors), but it is extensive and within only a few minutes one can be away from the throng and in peaceful surroundings. It certainly seems...More

There’s nothing I can add to the glowing reports this place receives. All I can do is endorse them. This is a magical place... magnificent shrines and temples, lovely forested parkland AND those beautifully friendly deer. What an experience.

Good nature, cute deers, wonderful experience. You can buy biscuits from the vendors for 150 yen and then lure the deers over to you for an interesting photo. Great place for solo travelers and family alike and a wonderful area to shop and see the...More

Deers are there all the time though the year and winter time is very cold but very beautiful. If you have snow that will be a bonus!!

There is a special bus that conducts you from the bullet train station directly to Nara park entry. However even within the park it's a fair amount of walking. To see the Buddha temple too it's a walk, although the deer are... More

As the park is an open area, I don't think it could be closed. However, when darkness falls, people would start moving out & most if not all the tourist sites would begin to close for the night. I guess it would be deserted... More
