If you want a great sakura spot that isn't very crowded then this is a great place to come. You can see the sakura line the Biwa cannel as it disappears into the mountainside towards Kyoto. It's also only a short walk up to Miidera temple if you want to view more sakura and get a view out over Otsu... More

First ever time I enjoyed Shakura near Lake Biwa, as well as in Japan. Mind blowing experience for me.

On the way from Keihan Miidera station to Miidera Temple, you can enjoy a pleasant walking, since there is not much traffic in this area. In spring, you can watch cherry blossoms on the both sides of Biwako-Sosui, a canal, which provides drinking water to the inhabitants of Kyoto. It is picturesque!

Here for Sakura and this site in Otsu does not disappoint. Outstanding blooms in a serenity setting with temples as a backdrop. Off the beaten path a bit and about 15 min by JR from Kyoto.
