This Museum is an easy walk from the Kagoshima Chuo Station although tram or bus options are available. The Museum is a wonderful introduction to early Japanese history, particularly through the Meiji Restoration ere. English speaking audio is available and worth using. Highly recommend.

Small museum on two levels which is almost completely in Japanese. Few English texts don't hold up to what is expected of a museum of international relevance. There is an English audio guide available, but we got that info only when we left the museum. Nice films though of the satsuma students coming to England.

We enjoyed the visit greatly. Although it is small with only two levels, it gives a comprehensive coverage of the historic milestone for Japan and the world. Make sure budget an hour for the two multimedia shows. Inform the reception at the entrance and they will provide headphone and reserve a seat beforehand. - English, Chinese and Korean are available.... More

I'm always a fan of Japan Meiji restoration, and this is a place I must come. In my opinion it is well arranged, clear to see the whole history of this important change in Japanese history. Oh and basement movies were winderful! I watched 3 of them!

Tours of museum are available in multiple languages including English, with several interactive exhibits. The museum focus is the regarding the Meiji Restoration and end of the Edo period. Tour will highlight Japan notables such as the Kagoshima Students, and Saigo-san.

It is an informative museum about the Meiji Restoration. Saigo, Okubo and many other heroes of that time were born in Kagoshima, precisely near the site of this museum. There is a reconstruction of Atsuhime's room, which is quite interesting. If you are a lover of history, it is worth to visit.

This well organised and maintained museum filled in many details about the Meiji history and the restoration of its place in the world. We were given English translation iphone guides for explanations to the exhibits and two well made films were great. As the weather was very wet outside this museum was an excellent indoor amusement. The car parking nearby... More

Although there was not too much in the way of english description, I stuck with it and over a period of about 1 hour began to understand more about this amazing period in Japanese history. I stayed for the show and had English language headphones - strongly recommend this

While this museum provides a lot of info on the Meiji Restoration, the exhibits looks a bit unprofessional. A lot of the exhibits were pasted and the explanation handwritten. It feels a bit more like a student project. The robotic reenactment of history downstairs is interesting, and it's good they have English headphone so you understand narration

Hesitated to visit as we had 3 teens who are easily bored. But at the end, we all agreed that it was well worth the visit. The two shows are a must see, especially the one on the travels of the Satsuma students to UK. It opened the eyes of the students and helped propelled Japan towards modernization. Exhibit area...
