Too many people all at once. The water wasn't better than 100yen small old local public bath. I'd rather soak myself peacefully away from those tourists

Recommended by the information desk at Beppu train station, we made this the last stop on our saunter through the Jigoku "Hells". Through that recommendation, we also got a discounted ticket! The onsen is one of the best that I have been to~ It is quite large with a wonderful array of inside pools, rotemburo, saunas and, special to this... More

We booked a family onsen since we have tattoos and young children. This place was 2 minute walk from the Happy Neko ( I recommend this place you can stay in a studio apartment with kitchen or a Japanese style room in the main home!) we walked over and booked the private outdoor onsen! It was really amazing our boys... More

We walked to these Steam Baths from our cruise ship (35 mins good uphill exercise) and were pleased to have the relief of the baths (750 yen). The English of the staff is not good and the explanations of the facility involved a lot of gesticulating, nodding and pointing. As well as a range of refreshing hot water and steam... More

Nice way to end a busy day. Give your mind and body some relaxing moments. We did the sand bath as well but this was very much trouble for a brief moment of rest.

It is a really good hot spring, they even have the private hot spring for family at a reasonable price. The food is not as good as the hot spring though.

4 years living in Beppu, and Hyotan is by far the BEST hot spring. I love the sand bath, where we can just relax, sleep, or read a book. I love the groggy feeling after getting up from the sand bath and while brushing off the sand just to move to the hot spring and get more relaxed. I love... More

Very nice place and very clean. But I guess I was expecting more from what I have heard about it. First sand bath was nothing special, no-one can help you so you will end ups always with an arm out of the sand. Second the onsen here are just warm, there is not one very hot. The steam bath is...
