Snorkeling on the beach
During my stay, I also enjoyed snorkeling on Iriomote Island's star-sand beach and Kuroshima's Nakamoto Coast, but by far the largest variety of fish was on the Yonehara Coast!

If you are careful about the takeoff current, you can enjoy it close to the shore as long as you don't push yourself too much because the wide area is quite shallow.
However, there are no lifeguards, so of course you have to be careful.

There are toilets and showers at the entrance to the beach
Once you're up from the coast, you can head to the nearby Arakawa Falls (a 15-minute walk) to take a shower of fresh water.

If you don't have a car, there's some things that can be annoying, like bus time, but I think it's worth going.

I went there a few years ago, but I revisited it because it's easier to snorkel at the beach entry. I think the condition of the coral has deteriorated, but I think it is best to see a lot of fish on Ishigaki Island even within a short distance from the beach.
I looked for free parking but didn't know, so I used a paid parking lot. I had been bumped (not by one car, but by visitors) and yelled at before, so this time I used the campsite side and enjoyed it comfortably.

I visited with a rental car and paid for the parking lot, but I think it was worth it considering the safety management of the beach and the shower fee after going up.
Depending on the tide, the beach can become quite shallow, so you need to be careful not to damage the coral.
The shadows of small fish were dark.
I heard that there was a clownfish spot on the right side of the beach, so I looked for it, but I couldn't find it.

If you like snorkelling this is definitely a spot not to miss! Crystal clear water, plenty (PLENTY) of fish with an amazing variety and there is even corals that are actually still alive! Too bad there are so many people who just do not pay attention and walk with their flippers or shoes right onto it - shameless. Check the tides before coming, best to come close to high tide so you have full flexibility to explore. We were there in June, no box jellyfish yet, probably for later in the summer.

My favourite part of the experience is all the beautiful colours and types of fish that vary. My family and I saw a sea cucumber and a sea snake(we were snorkeling) The beach was clean and the water was clear. There is parking 500 ¥ for a day and there is a public shower and bathroom. The beach is just around 30 seconds away from the parking and the water is so clean and crystal clear in the sun!

Instead of parking were everyone goes and paying an entrance fee we parked nearby and accessed the beach through the camp site for free. It is gorgeous and definitely one of the best beaches we have been on Ishigaki. You have to swim a bit to find the right snorkeling spot but it is worth it. Another day went to a nearby hidden beach after a bridge overlooking a small river 1.5 miles west of the Yonehara village. Access is hard to spot: it is located on a small road right after a noodles restaurant towards the see. A must see in Ishigaki.

Easy to get to by bus but very specific timetable. Be aware.
Exceptionally beautiful coral/shell beach, crystal clear water. Friend went swimming and sea was shallow for a long way. We were there from high tide to low tide and started to see rocks appearing from sea so probably good for snorkeling.
Pay 200yen for showers. Toilet facilities free. Drinks vending machines, no food available when we were there. Also was very windy so felt cold at times, but so beautiful

Simply unbelievable! Corals come right to the edge of water, and the moment you step into it, you are into a full-grown coral forest. Plenty of fish, of all shapes and colours, as well as other marine creatures. The water was very warm in June, so we could snorkel for hours! It is transparent as well, great visibility, no suspended particles...
Beware of the poisonous creatures though, I did see a sea snake and a stone fish! Also corals are pretty sharp, take care, and better wear a wetsuit if you have one. Otherwise, just watch your feet...

We did snorkelling at a few other spots around Ishigaki, but this one is definitely the best, simply no contest here. It is both beautiful, and accessible, being right along the road, and with all the facilities provided. If you are into snorkelling, be sure to stay somewhere near this beach, as this is the place to go on Ishigaki!

Went in November to go snorkeling. Pretty much had the entire beach to ourselves. Water was clear and warm, and we didn't have to fight a strong current or waves (thanks to the natural breakwater provided by the coral reef) despite it being a windy day. Lots of corals, fishes (including several puffer fish), and clams to see, though I recommend going during high tide as during low tide it's very hard to navigate between the rocks and coral as there isn't much space between them.

Certainly worth a visit, restrooms and parking lot round the corner, beach is apparently cleaned contrary to other beaches in Ishigaki which are full of plastic garbage.
Corals under water are largely bleached, unfortunately
