I'm sure this cannot compare to the covered shopping streets in major Japanese cities, but it is a fun place to take a walk. There are many restaurants and shops of various kinds. The end farthest from Harimayabashi comes out right at Ohashidori, where they sell foods such as fresh (uncooked) fish. I used to go there to buy my favorite "suppai" pickles from some old lady.

Obiyamachi also runs close to the Kochi City Central Park, where there is a couple items of playground equipment for kids, and sometimes interesting activities going on.

At Kochi, we visited Obiyamachi, the city's central shopping arcade. During our visit, we were welcomed by a group of students who use dances to express their feeling. There are lots of shops and restaurants all along. A good place to visit.

One of my favourite places to go shopping when I visit Kochi. There's pay for parking somewhat close by. It's easier to walk there or take the train in. Have a long stroll and visit all the shops.

I've been here in the afternoon, after visiting Kochi Castle (just few minutes walking from it). This shopping arcade has a lot of different shops, cafes and restaurants. If you're looking for souvenirs, if you want to take a coffee and relax, or if you want to try the famous bonito fish, this is the right place.

This really is a very nice place to stroll around. Tons of places to eat and browse, you will not get bored. At the time I visited there was a huge food decoration exhibition going on and tables were set all over to show different kinds of artistically arranged dishes. That was very cool. Lots of vendors, cafes, places to eat and shop. Recommended!

It was a very wet, rainy day when we visited Kochi so we were glad to discover this covered shopping street - a cross between a mall and an arcade. There were many restaurants, including some that were cooking bonito fish over open flames, and other restaurants specialising in wagyu beef. We enjoyed looking in some of the shops, especially the 100 Yen store and other similar establishments - we were able to get lots of souvenirs (like chopsticks) for a fraction of the price of elsewhere. We enjoyed our shopping trip so much that we didn't make it to the castle (at the end of the shopping centre) - maybe next time!

Just across the street from the Kochi Yosakoi Information Exchange Center is the entrance to the Harimayabashi Shopping Street which connects to the Obiyamachi Ichibangai Shopping Street. These streets are covered and make for a very pleasant walk to the Castle (even in the heat of July). There are plenty of shops, cafes and banks/atms along the street and downtown area to occupy your time.

The Obiyamachi arcade is good, with many different stores and of course shelter from sun and rain. There are a few good restaurants there, notably the Myojinmaru, where they sear fresh Bonito in flames from burning straw.
