Lovely Experience

Enjoyed the place and the Awa-no-Kaze dancers. Didn't understand Japanese, but still found it fulfilling and fun.

Tokushima is famous for Awa Odori in Summer. I am glad that there is a Kaikan (hall) to show case the dance history with actual sampling of performance. I went there during the day and the performance was a shorter version of about 40min and cost about 600Yen. I heard the night version by more famous group is about 50min... More

The Awa Odori Kaikan really is the central tourist site of Tokushima. It consists of a museum of Awa Odori dancing, a stage in which this give regular Awa Odori demonstrations (3-4 per day), the downhill terminal of the Mt. Bizan cable car, a much better than average craft shop, and even a little tea shop where one can sample... More

I am normally wary of cultural shows which can be tacky at times. This is different and 50 minutes of great music, dancing and a very congenial host. All in Japanese, but music and dance is international and you can get the gist of the host's spiel. Only about $10 and a great gift store with locally made products of... More

I watched and joined the evening performance and it was above my expectation. The dance was performed by one of the troupes (equivalent to Escolas de Samba) so that I really felt as if I were in Tokushima in mid-summer. Even though the MC of the performance spoke only a few words of English, he welcomed foreigners as well and... More

I wouldn't rank this super high out of all the things I've done in Japan, but if you're in Tokushima it's a good place to go. We got the museum/dance/cable car combo ticket for around ¥1600. The museum is modern but small and in Japanese only (we were supplied with an English info sheet but it wasn't that informative). The... More

We stayed only 1 night in Tokushima city and had limited time. We still opted to spend time to watch an Awaordori dance performance here due to good reviews of other visitors. We watched the evening dance show by professional dance group at 8pm. It took about an hour. The dancers performed professional dance Audience are also invited to go... More

I really enjoyed the show highlighting the local dancing. It is really lively and the kimonos and live small band was charming! The gift shop had great local products from the island. After the show you can take a cable car to the top of the mountain- which translates as eyebrow mountain. There is a single price ticket. I also... More

Among the many festivals in Japan, Awa Odori is for sure the first to remember. The Tokushima Awa Odori is held from 12th August to 15th August as part of the area’s Obon festival. During the festival, the whole city is full of passion and excitement. The dancers and attendees will all dance together like attending the carnival of Rio... More
