Snow wall was the main highlight of the trip to Japan for us and we were not disappointed! There were hardly any Tourist around and we had it all to ourside. The ropeway up the mountain, one must check if it is in operation and...More

When we dove through the weather was terrible. There was a bit o ice on the street and the road is very windy. I would not recommend this for anyone who gets car sick. The forests were beautiful but I could not enjoy them as...More

Part of the drive from Lake Towada to Hakkoda was beautiful and scenic with all the trees turning into different colours at certain stage. Ride on the Cable Car was also good as you could see the "Sea of Leaves" below you but patience was...More

It is a fair drive, and the rope way up is a good viewing platform, but once we were on top, the fog came in and visibility became limited. Looks like it would have lots of potential on a clear day, though.

I went to see the snow monsters (snow covered trees) and the weather was clear. The monsters were amazing, and the views fantastic. I had a lot of fun, recommend the onigiri at the restaurant at the top. The snowshoeing tour we did was short...More

The weather was not great and the first trip to the top of the ropeway was pretty freaky but most memorable. The 2 main runs marked from the top of the mountain are both fantastic with plenty of options to discover through the trees. When...More

It is magic place. It takes one hour to reach Hakkoda mount by bus from Aomori JR station. Rope way leads to the top of mount. You may walk and enjoy beauty and silence on 1,5 km. I was impressed by highland nature!

Hiking at Hakkoda in autumn is just beautiful - the colours of the leaves are just stunning. There's a variety of different walks to meet your needs and plenty of others around also hiking. Be sure to visit Sukayu Onsen afterwards!

after we stored our baggage in 酸湯 and had a quick soba lunch in the restaurant nearby, we headed to the trail with the entrance just next to the onsen. It's been raining for the last few days, so the walking trail was full of...More

It's the Mecca of Spring Skiing/back country in Japan. Plenty of great places to stay all over the Mountain range. I've been going up there for the past 10 years and no 2 years has the nature been the same. Just amazing.

The Hakkoda Ropeway website says that skiing is possible until mid-May, so I would say definitely no flowers. You may be able to snowshoe down the mountain though. They rent snowshoes so it is entirely possible. When I went... More
