The Boh Tea Plantation view is nice. But unfortunately the rest is typical overhyped tourism. The place is poorly maintained (broken tiles, pavement, pathways). Research indicated to use a taxi and there were no Grab cars for transport. Some taxis there are okay. Some are sketchy & dangerous. The one that picked us up had a broken door handle, boot & seatbelt. We later found out at the hotel there are in fact Grab car services. Using Grab car services was much better. The farms are poorly maintained. Some entry fees to tourist attractions are pricey& they only accept cash. If charging 50RM at Flora Park there should at least be an EFTPOS machine. The locals drive very dangerously here.

This was my first visit for over twenty years. I remember lots of different terrace farms, little kampung houses and roadside stalls selling fruit and veg.
Massive and very ugly poly tunnels now cover much of the landscape. Kampungs have expanded to include drive-thu McDonald's, Burger King, brightly covered Shell fuel stations and gift shops selling all sorts of tat. The lavender farm is a mini theme park with garden gnomes and kiss-me-quick hats. The Boh tea plantation still looks beautiful, though.
Most of the roadside on the long winding climb up from KL is covered in litter and vast areas of the highlands are being cleared for more development, where planning laws that should moderate construction and protect the environment appear to be usurped by the commercial imperatives of building more visitor attractions.
It's becoming Genting, all over again.

I planned a family trip to Cameron highlands bringing along two young kids (<10 years) and 2 elderly parents (>80 years). My biggest worry was how to get around the tourist spots as what I recall of CH was winding roads! It will be very stressful for my husband and I especially with the extreme ages of our travel company!
I came across Shirley's transport service when browsing online for transport options from Ipoh to Cameron, and I'm so thankful I found her! She was so friendly and helpful throughout the planning of our trip, constantly checking on us (before, during and after the trip), if we have brought enough clothes for the kids, if the weather is good, recommendations on tourist spots that are suitable for the kids and elderly. The driver assigned to us was Mr Edward, who was equally as caring and patient, helping my parents and kids get on and off the car, very patient to our requests. We even got dropped off to take a break at the apartment before coming out again for a yummy dinner recommended by him. Unfortunately CH is no longer the same as before, it's packed on weekends and traffic jam can be disastrous. Luckily we made this best decision of engaging them, we were able to rest in the car, stress free as we know we are in good hands. We had an Estima and It was very very clean and comfortable! Thank you again for your fantastic service, we will definitely recommend you to our friends and family!

We were a little skeptical about whether to come after reading past reviews. But very glad we did!
Jungle trail 10 combined with 6 seems to be one of the most popular hikes in the area, and we accessed it on foot from our hotel in Tanah Rata. There had only been very light showers but some sections were very slippery and potentially dangerous: 1 metre+ gullies with treacherous mud on either side. Some ladders/scrambling was required too - quite a workout for the old thighs! Cloud cover around the electricity pylon at the peak blocked any rainforest canopy views. This walk leads to Cameron Valley Tea house, which was a cute place for dinner and a slice of cake with a view. Then we got a Grab back to town from there.
Mossy forest had a private event on, so we were turned back. The road has massive pot holes and is steep in sections - our hotel receptionist said she'd be surprised if any regular Grab drivers would even accept the request to go there. So we did a half day 4WD tour through our hotel for RM 55 that included the Boh tea plantation and strawberry farm too (but wouldn't include the RM 30 entry fee for Mossy Forest boardwalk). Instead of Mossy forest, we did the Coral Hill hike which was gorgeous!
Normally we prefer to do stuff on our own, but our guide was very informative and gave the otherwise signless attractions context. He also informed us that the traffic was about 25% of what it had been over the recent holidays, and that there are no megafauna such as monkeys/tigers/elephants in the area due to the higher altitude - and to head to the lowland jungle in Taman Negara or similar for that.
Overall, we felt that 2 days was enough in CH to see the highlights. And yes, it was worth the awful bus ride in.

We visited the Cameron Highlands today with our lovely driver, Eric. He picked us up from our Ipoh hotel at 9am and took us around the Highlands and Ipoh attractions until 6pm. He’s a fantastic and safe driver as well as extremely knowledgeable. We learnt a lot from our journey with Eric as well as had a lot of laughs! The day was completely up to us, but he gave lots of recommendations for food as well as all the free things to do (which is helpful when you’re on a budget!). He also went out of his way to give us lots of information on our next destinations which was extremely helpful.
We found his details on here, but it doesn’t hurt to leave them again - etrips39@gmail.com, 0135333949.
We highly recommend him to anyone who wants a tour of the area, as well as any surrounding areas. It would have been extremely difficult for us to navigate our day without him. Thank you, Eric!!!

My husband and I took a day trip from Ipoh to Cameron Highlands. Eric Chan was our driver whose contact info (etrips39@gmail.com; +60135333949) we found from a previous review titled "Recommended Ipoh Driver" on this website. We contacted him via email prior to our visit to Ipoh and he responded very promptly. On the day of travel, he picked us up punctually from the hotel. Given the limited time we had, Eric wisely took us to visit the key places based on our preferences which included the Green View Garden and the BOH tea estate. On our return trip, Eric took us to the Kek Lok Tong temple, the Tibetan Enlightened Heart Buddhiist Temple and a pomelo farm. Eric is a safe driver, very knowledgeable and friendly. He also provide interstate tours such as KL, Penang and other places in Malaysia. It was a pleasure to have him as our tour guide and driver. We would not hesitate to recommend Eric to other travellers.

If you have the time , it is really worth visiting. It’s a tricky journey to get there because the 60km curvy road is nothing for travel sickness. Stay for 4 or days - check if your hotel has an AC because it gets very cold there in the evenings!!! Extremely beautiful aria, the tea plantations are breathtaking and the rainforest is wonderful. You can visit the other attractions if you like to but we did not because they are not really interesting to us (strawberry, sheep, bees etc.)

Breathtaking views. Wonderful driver/tour guide Maran from V Icon Resources. Nothing was rushed. Easy day trip from Ipoh with lots of other attractions to visit all in the one day. Thank you Maran for a lovely tour. And thank you also for taking me to the authentic Ipoh White Coffee shop. Great coffee. The coconut tart was Deeelicious. Thank you.

Had a really nice break here. Temperature was a few degrees lower which was very welcome. Still t shirt weather though. Stayed in Tanah Rata. Had lots of short jungle-ish walks around, lots of nature. Town was lovely, but not overly. Boh tea plantation highly recommended as was the sun rise and mossy forest. Not strenuous at all. But mossy forest not for very young kids or those with mobility issues. Lots of steps. I would also recommend getting a private driver (taxi) we paid 200rm for two people to do the things we wanted. Took a little over 5 hours and worked out much cheaper than an organised tour or organised’private’ guide.

Driving to the Cameron Highlands is eye opening, the levels of plastic pollution and litter astounding, like a dirty little secret that no travel guide dares mention. Tour buses and lorry’s belching fumes jam the roads. Built up areas are busy with scooters that weave in and out of traffic narrowly missing dogs, children and tourists decanted from tour buses to visit market stalls, at times the scene is more Mad Max than scenic wonder. The joy of travel is the journey, this journey is one of shock and horror. Stay on the main highway this little detour will have you fearing for the planet!

Are any of the hiking trails at Tanah Rata still worth seeing in terms of beautiful hikes?
We don't want to go if all we see are developments every where we hike.

Hello
I want to visit Cameron from kuala lampur
I listened that it takes 3 to 4 hours from kuala lampur to Cameron so should I reserve a hotel on Cameron to stay or I can visit Cameron just in a day?

Hi, I'm planning to visit Cameron Highlands for 1N/1D in Feb, 2016. I've few queries:
1. Is it worth visiting Cameron Highlands in Feb? (seeking replies from weather point of view)
2. Is it possible to drive down to CH from KL? (seeking replies from self-drive, car hire point of view)
3. I read many of the reviews mentioning bad state of CH in recent times. Is it really not advisable to visit now?
