The cave is very nice, you can climb up a lot of steps through the cave and you can get a view for a long way. It is a 15/20 min bus ride from Ipoh Medan Kidd bus station (beside the railway station). Take the T31 or the 35 and they drop off not far away. Bus costs 1.30 RM each way.

Our favorite temple in Ipoh, away from the city and the conglomeration of parks located in the south east of the city. Easy to access by taxi, this temple will delight lovers of beauty and spirituality. The site, the caves and the statues are purely dreamlike and magnificent.

I went here today and enjoyed it. It's a cool cave temple and you can walk all the way to the top for a pretty cool view. It gets very hot so bring water and maybe go earlier then I did at 1.45pm. It's free entry but you can leave a donation. A must visit in Ipoh!

Nice cave although like all the places well provided with proper steps and rails etc. There is then a walk which goes out of the cave to to the top of the hill. It keeps going so keep looking for ways up. The view is interesting but not so beautiful as Ipoh on one side and an industrial area on the other.,

Took a grab from town about a 15 minute ride.
Wear good shoes if you plan on taking the 450 steps to the top, which I would recommend, very nice.
Make sure you take the correct steps that say to the top.
Also bring water and if you can, go early before it gets too hot.
Beautiful murals and religious statues.
It is free of charge.
Great formations in the cave a very interesting place.
I would highly recommend and return.

Ipoh is an old type of place and has many temples and caves to explore. We did this one and loved it. So much to see. It's a bit of a climb to the top but it's well worth it. Take your time and plenty to drink.

It is a place for Chinese to visit their past away ancestor. However, if you would like to understand the culture of Buddhism you may pay a visit. The Special thing I found it is the fortune teller Ms Zhang, She can tell who are you at your previous, present and future. Call her 012 5528786 before you go.

For Temples, go to the Railway Station and turn right as you come out and 5 minutes on the right and you will find the city bus station. The counter staff are very friendly and helpful (as are all the people we met). Number 66 will take you South West, to Sam Poh Tong Cave Temple in 20minutes for 2RM or the 35 will take you North to the more impressive Perak Cave Temple, likewise. The bus driver will drop you right outside the Temples. Checkout the others that are within walking distance also. Frequent buses will get you back to Medan Kidd.

Recently, I visited Perak Tong - One of the largest limestone cave temple in Malaysia. Built in 1926 by a Buddhist priest from China, Perak Tong houses over 40 Buddha. Beyond the main altar, a passage leads into the cave's interior. After a steep climb of 385 steps, the cave opens again to reveal a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside.

Upon entering the cave, I was BLOWN AWAY! I was instantly transformed into a cave paradise. I saw huge statues of gold coloured Four Heavenly Kings at entrance of the cave. The cave wall was beautifully painted with more than 20 large-sized pictures depicting Buddha, Gods and deities. The cave paintings were AWESOME & AMAZING!!! I spent one hour observing these fine pieces of cave art. Every cave painting is unique and painted by different artist. A middle aged cleaner saw my enthusiasm. I said only two words to her "IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!" She smiled and continue with her job.

Maneuvering the first 100 steps was scary! Debris, wet cement and fallen cave rocks were all over the place. I saw huge pieces of fallen rocks hanging at the side of the pathway – some of them AS BIG AS MY BEDROOM! I was worried sick about these pieces of rocks. It definitely looks dangerous and risky to me! I don’t want to die in Perak Tong!!

By the time you climbed for more than 200 steps, you'll bump into two medium-sized rest place. I rested for about 10 minutes before continuing my climb. After that, you’ll see a small monastery built on the mid level of the cave. I walked behind the temple and chanced upon a man made stair extension to the highest level of the cave. I keep on walking until I reached another rest place. It has two levels. The view from here was SUPERB!!!! You can virtually see the entire Ipoh city from here. Strong winds were blowing from all direction. A VERY RELAXING MOMENT - no stress, no worries just a glimpse of nature's wonder. Later, I walked to the last and highest rest place. Another beautiful view of Perak. You can even see the highway and mountains from here!

My initial plan was to spend one hour exploring Perak Tong. But, I spent more than three hours ascending and descending Perak Tong the Cave Temple. I'm a humanist and nonbeliever....but this trip to Perak Tong really enlightens me. The rituals, the paintings, the cave and the horizon were MAGICAL and MYTHICAL. A far greater place than Batu Caves!!!! Perak Tong is A MUST SEE attraction in Perak.

I captured loads of pictures and written a travelogue about my recent visit to Perak Tong. Feel free to visit my photo blog and travelogue:
