For me, Penang is all about Georgetown. Heritage, historical building, quiet exotic old town, street food heaven. Great for city walk. True gem of Southeast Asia.

I was on the mainland for work and went to Georgetown town to check it out. Georgetown is the best place to be! All the tourists and tourist related stuff is there. Check out the malls, street art and all the different culture.

George Town Penang was our first port call on the 'Mariner of the seas' cruise, we reached Penang around 6.00 pm. It's a pretty colonial town, walking around the streets, admiring the colonial architecture was nice. The hop-on-hop-off tour could have been a good idea, but it stops at 8.00 pm, so we would have got only 2 hours on... More

This is a very old town with fantastic history. Furthermore it houses nice old buildings and modern buildings too. My main influence was the food, it was fresh cheep and many varieties, basically fantastic. There is lot of culture in this place and the people a very friendly. Lots of things to do for kids and family.

The capital city of Penang, George Town has been awarded UNESCO world heritage site status so we were expecting great things. Whilst the architecture shows a great mix of cultures and religions, it hasn't been maintained well and is rather bland. There are a few small colourful temples, the Fort and some interesting street art but that is about it.... More

On going for Chinese New Year 2017...cultural performances...the lion dances being watched by spectators local and foreign tourists. Even trishaws being fewer as they were not available...as being spread out at heritage zones. Buses packed as most heading towards destinations of their choices to visit...

This place is touristy but it is worth a visit. I do not like places with large number of tourists and prefers to go off the beaten path but I have been here twice. This place has a lot, and I mean A LOT of good places to eat for people in any type of budget. Even an unassuming food... More
