Unlike some grander ones the entrance to both Chinese temples facing each other on Armenian street is free. Their history is well documented with pictures on the walls. Yap temple is attached to an Art Deco building from the 1920's.

In the corner of Armenian and Cannon street one will encounter a European style building with Greek columns in front and a façade painted in olive green, on which is written in English: 'Yap Temple'. This though is the kongsi (clan house) of the Yap clan (not open to the public), while the Chinese temple for worshipping - as usual - the ancestors and the god of prosperity is attached to it next door with a smaller shrine in front on the sidewalk, all with green rounded tiles on the roof.
The not very big Taoist temple has all the classical features with upturned eaves at the corners and sculptures of dragons on top. Most impressive are the two carved pillars in front. As is written at the front the building dates from 1924.

Located in Armenian Street and within the UNESCO World Heritage site, this green roofed building adorned with dragons is one of the better preserved clan houses. The piece of land on which the clan house stands was donated by the philanthropist Yeap Chor Ee. Next to the building is the Choo Chay Keong Temple which houses the alter of the Yap deity and the Yap temple which houses the Yap families ancestral tablets.

This temple is located on the corner of Lebuh Cannon and Lebuh Armenian and is the most obvious of the Clan houses but there is little information (or even a name) to be seen. I wasn’t sure if visitors were welcome so just admired the exterior.

This temple has a striking exterior with ornate roof with many figures, dragons etc but the interior does not have any particular stand out features. Served the Yap clan from South China from 1926.

This Chinese temple, right in the heart of the George Town heritage area is a must on the temple tour list. George Town offers a lot of different temples to visit and the Yap temple shouldn't be left out. See the pictures I added to this review.

What drew my attention is the beautiful colourful exterior that caught my eye. I did not go inside, but I enjoyed looking at the beauty of the temple.

The Yap Temple, officially called Choo Chay Keong 慈濟宮 (Cí Jì Gōng), is the clan temple of the Lum Yeong Tong Yap Kongsi, located next to it. The clan temple is located at the corner of Armenian Street and Cannon Street, in the core zone of the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It was erected for the worship of the Yap clan's patron deity, Hoay Che Chung Wang, as well as for the display of the Yap ancestral tablets, hence it was sometimes known as the Yap Ancestral Temple (葉氏祠堂).

If you visit Khoo Kongsi, this temple is worth visiting. The temple is small and dedicated to the Chinese God of prosperity and showcases beautiful ornamentation, particularly the roof of green tiles and the intricate carvings of dragons. The walls and pillars are decorated with stone carvings, all masterpieces of craftsmanship. The building dates to 1924 and is dedicated to the patron deity of the Yaps, Hoay Che Chung Wang. Located at the junction of Armenian and Cannon Streets.

Interesting little temple but we really didn’t find it very captivating. Ornate exterior draws your attention as does the shrine.
