I was in Penang for two nights with my wife. After our busy day, we took long walks around the area and ended up at Cannon Street. It's definitely a nice environment to take walks and to just relax in the evenings. I really appreciated the architecture as well as it was very different to my home country and something... More

No cannons in Cannon street, just like there are no Armenians in Armenian street, but the names hint at what the places were meant or used for in earlier days. Cannon street is very much like Armenian street in all other aspects though, with the same mix of clan temple, cafes, street food and art.

This falls right in the middle of the historic Georgetown area and has a lot of well done murals and artworks on building exterior walls. Mostly it is frequented by pedestrians and people on rented cycles or trishaws.

Cannon St has lots to see. But it also is right next to Armenian St & lots of other tourist spots. There is a lot to see and do in this area, so make sure that you check the map to find out what else is nearby.

On my first day in Penang, I rode the Free Buses to be familiar with the location of various tourist attractions. I learned that Cannon Street becomes Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling! Lots of attractions located here as one walks from south to north or the water front: Temples, Mosque, Little India, Town Hall, City Hall, Esplanade, restaurants, shops, etc. Enjoy!

If you are looking for really unique knick knacks, pop over to the Owl Shop or the Cat n Dog shop. You will find some pretty interesting stuff. Be careful of the traffic as it may be quite congested with buses as it is also the entrance to Khoo Kongsi

Went down here recommended by friend who has vacation home in Penang. Its a quirky, different, eccentric place with lots of nice cafes, small interesting restaurants, art shops, antique shops, etc. We were a large group and we hired some rickshaws and peddle "cars" and one of the rickshaw drivers acted as tour guide. So we went around to all... More
