Great Local Market
Dec. 2020
I'm a sucker for a traditional local market - wherever I go. This one is an interesting one - all manner of groceries, household items, dry goods and fresh produce.
\We got some lovely salted kurau fish from Myanmar - and it makes some lovely dishes; if you like that sort of thing of course.
Plus there is a man about a third way down on the LH side(coming from the Lebuh Penang end) who cooks a great wok fried turnip cake with egg and bean sprouts.; So good.

A Good Place to Get Things
Jan. 2020
Chowrasta is a place where you can get all the stuffs, starting from the basic needs to souvenirs. With the reasonable price, you can get all the things within your budget.

A Must Visit to The Chowrasta Bazaar...
Aug. 2020 • Solo
A Must Visit to the Iconic Icon of Penang The Chowrasta Market for either local souvenirs or even local food stalls surrounding area which has been there for more than easily 50 years or so... Located in the Heart of Georgetown, a merely 2 mins walking distance to Komtar the Tallest Landmark in Penang which glows at night to symbolise the Harmony of Penangites and also
to attract Tourist both locally and from afar, as per se.

Breakfast with the locals!
Mar. 2020 • Friends
We chanced upon this delightful market on Chowrasta Road and decided to have our breakfast here.

The food stalls are clean and the variety available, pretty good! It's a great place to have a simple but tasty local breakfast at local prices with the locals!

The food stalls are kinda nestled in an enclosure on the main street beside the wet market and the entire length of the street is filled with all kinds of stalls selling a variety of foods and sundries like breads, buns, curry puffs, drinks, dried goods, pickled vegetables and even bags and clothings, face masks (not the surgical but the fancy, colourful cloth kind), etc.

This is a market where the locals go to buy their fresh vegetables, fruits, fish and meats, etc. so please don't expect to find souvenirs here.

It's a great place to soak in the local atmosphere for those who are interested. Suggest you go early in the morning when it's cooler and livelier.

Fascinating
Jan. 2020 • Couples
A great insight in to local culture, the market was heaving with loads of people, mopeds driving on and out of narrow walkways and pedestrians.
Tgeres all sorts for sale here, gifts, hardware, bags, wallets, belts and of course lots of food.
Theres fish and meat.
Along the streets outside are numerous food stalls all being used by the locals and any tourists who wish to try the food.
Very busy but felt perfectly safe and loved just wandering around the stalls and aisles

Destination for Daily Necessities

Back to yesteryears where people meet, mingle, haggle and kick off their day. You will find some local finger food/snacks that's off the mainstream market. Its atmosphere is a world of its own....buzzing every minute.
