An easy 3 hour bus ride from Marrakesh later and you're in the calm lovely seaside town of Essaouira. The medina has more of a boutique feel than the overrun tourism of Marrakesh's medina. Highly recommended.

Wonderful artisan work, best Argan oil products, fresh fish sandwiches grilled in front of you, interesting old Jewish quarter, large fish market, herbs & spices. Pedestrian, no motorbikes! Much easier to navigate & enjoy than Marrakech median. Relaxed, low key, bargain away. Be prepared for...More

Here is a place in Morocco where you can really let your hair down and relax. The change in tempo in the Medina of Essaouira is evident as soon as you stride down one of the many shopping strips. Everyone appears very mellow, almost laid...More

The medina is average by Morocco standard, being not so good as Fes but better than Rabat and Meknes etc. However, if one has already seen the Fes Medina, it is not worth taking a 3 hr journey (one way) from Marrackech to see.

I stayed in a Riad here, and it felt like a therapy after 3 hectic days in Marakech which I also enjoyed. The people are much nicer, not aggressive at all. Filled with nice souvenir shops, galleries, seafood restaurants. Get one of the local designed...More

If you are staying in both locations do your shopping here as it is a lot cheaper as the locals have come up with fair pricing. There is a part of the Medina away from the harbour that is more for the locals and this...More

This Medina is a far cry from the one in Marrakech! It is cool and breezy, nowhere near as busy and no-one tries to push you into buying anything! The walls and old buildings are absolutely gorgeous too, I especially love all the colourful doors!

The medina of Essaouira is the most beautiful place. The shops are a mix of everything & the perfect place to shop & haggle. The people are so friendly & laid back. It was our favourite Morrocan town!!

It's about 2 hours from Marrakesh, costs about 1000 Dhs for private car. Ours was easily arranged by our Dar (small hotel).
