I read recently that too much choice when shopping makes it very difficult to make a decision and feel satisfied with what you eventually purchase when there are so many things you left behind. Perhaps not as overwhelming as the souks of Marrakech, but there are still more shops than even the most dedicated shopper can cope with in Essaoauria.... More

Essaouira's medina is a labyrinth of narrow streets but dont be put off it is quite easy to navigate. At the heart of the medina is a lively market where you can find absolutely anything you want! Be prepared to haggle . .It is custom to barter . .have a price in your head that your are willing to pay... More

I have been to Marrakesh and Agadir and was amazed that in this Medina, they did not hassle at all. Yes, you could bargain, but they let you walk away. The people are so much more laid back. Also the prices seem fair. Lots of Restaurants in and around the Medina.

The medina in Essaouira is very accessible, easy to navigate and not clogged with tons of motorbikes that present challenges to folks on foot. The sites, scenes and smells that are expected with such a visit are all there. In addition, it is extremely easy to find places to change money. We happened to visit during a rainy period and... A lovely, friendly Medina. It was a pleasure to walk around in Essouira - especially after a not too happy experience in Tarouddant. No-one pressured us. A truly delightful part of Essouira. Mind you, we spent a fair amount - and I stress the FAIR. Nowhere did we feel we'd paid too much.

We spent 7 nights in the Sofitel close by to the Medina and 2 1/2 days walking through the Medina. If you know where to go it can be a wonderful experience, but the chaos, the heat and smells can make it a bit overwhelming at first sight. We had a much better time in the Medina, when we came... Very nice to stroll through the streets and alleys. So different than Marrakech, here it;'s all white house and buildings and it's not to hot because of the wind. There are many nice places for a drink or food.

It is a really beautiful and not too big old town. The walls of the castle are really nice and the souks very colourful. As usually the shop keeper try to sell you anything with their smart way :).

Relatively airy and very friendly souk - obviously the shopkeepers are trying to sell you stuff but they are relaxed about it and you can take tea with them without an obligation to buy something

Great medina with all the restaurants, shops and markets u possibly need on holiday. We have visited it in start of October and were presently surprised that there wasn't too many tourist compare another tourist cities. Marrakech was too crowded compare to Essaouira. so really good experience just missed some really authentic food in there.
