This used to be the girls hostel during my time in Swakopmund and is now a government building. It also houses a art gallery. As you enter the building the first office on your right holds the key for the tower. Once at the top you have a superb view over the town and there are also some old pictures... More

Its a must see if in Swakopmund even if you are unable to climb the stairs. The building has beautiful tiles and artwork which can be seen in the courtyard. The view from the top of the tower is tremendous - all the way over town to the desert and the sea. It is a shame the courtyard is not... More

Fascinating architecture! Good gallery. And the best views in town. The tower has to be ascended - 360 degree views of the town is an experience. It is hard to believe that this gem and oasis of Swakopmund is surrounded by desert - it is easy to forget this when visiting the town. The view from the tower brings everything... More

When in Swakopmund, add the historic and charming Woermannhaus to you ' must-see' list ! Beautifully restored and housing a typical old fashioned library, explore the famous tower, which gives you the best views of the Atlantic Ocean and the older parts of Swakopmund and the oldest desert in the world, the Namib!

I would travel half way around the world to see it but as part of the limited colonial history and architecture, the Woermannhaus is on the tourist trail. The building sits on a quiet corner and is so unprepossessing that I actually walked past it before realising I had arrived.

When you are on your historic discovery through Swakopmund, the Woerman House is a compulsory stop: German colonial architecture, the Woerman line provided the colonies with sea transport. The house features also eateries as well as tourist shops. In the Sakopmund town centre.

The house of the man who owned the German shipping line that served Namibia. Also upstairs there is an art gallery run by the local art society. Good to look at on a poor day
