These plains get their name for the rare Welwitschia plant which is seen mostly there. Since there are only a few plants in this barren land, it can be avoided if you don't have much time.

The many plants, male and female are a special feature. Amazing how these can survive in the desert climate and become so old. The road is good, a bit bare at the beginning, but the plants at the end of the road are super interesting.

Ever been to the moon? This is probably comparable. Definitely not to be missed. Such a unique drive. Stop at Goanikontes for lunch before hitting the drive. Hi slow and pack water. No phone service in the area.

Drive through the Namib and absolutely marvel at the scenery and plants that survive in this desolate place. Takes a good three hours but would highly recommend. Make sure you get the pass from the Tourist Office before you go.

It was a nice experience to drive here and look at the weird Welwitschia plants that seems to us like big spiders with their leaves winding over the surface.
