We didnt expect much but this was indeed a nice place to make a pit stop on the way from Muscat to UAE. Entrance is 5 AED which is very fair. The fort is very well preserved and contains a lot of history. Excellent picture opportunities from the top. You can see the entire town from there.

The fort was built after Portuguese lost the control of the country. It shows traditional local culture and you can climb up for the great view of the valley

The 40m tall round tower is undoubtedly the centrepiece and highlight of Nizwa Fort and reached by a dark zig-zag staircase complete with pit traps and chutes for pouring boiling date syrup on attackers. The upper level is surprising wide and open and it is a fine viewpoint over the old town and the palm trees. Most of the complex... More

Fascinating and well repaired place, with excellent views and settings. We spoke to the manager about better tourist information and interpretation boards and these are on the way. But go anyway!

Nizwa Fort is a landmark near the souk and well worth a visit. There is a wonderful view from the rooftop in all directions. On the ground floor there is good background information on the history of the fort and the surrounding area and its people.

This is a cracking excursion if your in the Nizwa area. The fort is restored middle ages fort. It is heavily restored so that it looks a little more like something from Disney but it seems like they have done a good job on it and it still makes for a great walk around. It is a little sparsely furnished... More

Beautiful old historic structure offering views of the old and new sections of the city. There is a bit of stair climbing but worth the trek. There is also a small museum once your inside.
