We drove up to Volcan Baru National Park with the intention of hiking and birdwatching. But unfortunately, it started raining so there wasn't any wildlife to be seen. But the scenery was beautiful. We would definitely put this on our list to revisit another time.

Really amazing trek. No need for a guide as there is a road/track all the way but I would recommend not doing it unless you have the following: Reasonable level of fitness Warm clothes including a rainjacket, hat and gloves(or spare socks in my case!) Enough food, snacks and water to get you there and back (circa 8 hours) Headtorch... More

We did a day hike of the lower region with Charli from Highland Tours. We saw tons of agave plants in bloom and the volcano hummingbird (Selasphorus flammula) feeding on the blossoms. Beautiful area, very different from the cloud forest that we were staying in. Next time I'll plan to hike to the summit.

Beautiful, with a lot of scenery and local farms. Heard but did not see Howler Monkeys. Beautiful views of the villages down below and the sunrise.

14km up and down the volcano with a 1,6km height difference. We hiked this mountain in the middle of the night with a shuttle from hostel Mamallenas. It was quite rough for someone like myself, in shape but no prior hiking experience. Impossible to do without good shoes (hiking/trail running) But the view... amazing. We were lucky to be able... We hiked roughly 7 miles with a guide and the view at the top was amazing! Every level of the trail brought on a new sight. Pictures will never do it justice. Would love to do again some day.

This was the best thing I did period. I am afraid of heights but had to experience it I went 4 am with Baru tours jeep to the top. This on itself was very exciting. The driver Antonio is a great driver. I enjoyed the sunrise and we had a great breakfast on top of the Baru. If you are... More

I did this hike by myself without the assistance of a guide. Travel to the park, fees, and the trail are very straight forward. It has a 7,200 ft elevation gain over 8.5 miles. With only one ten minute break I was able to summit in 3:47 minutes but I was booking it...5-6 hours would have been more relaxing.

I highly recommend hiking to the top of "Volcano Barù". On a clear day it is possible to see both - the Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean. It's definitely worth a try BUT not for the squeamish as the most recommended time to start the hike is around midnight. You go through dense jungle and all you see is the... More
