Cloudy most days but worth it

The hike up is hard, but don't take a car - it's not worth it to take a car! Also, most days are cloudy so don't be disappointed if you can't see the views of both oceans. When... read more

The hike up is hard, but don't take a car - it's not worth it to take a car! Also, most days are cloudy so don't be disappointed if you can't see the views of both oceans. When you're at the top and if you don't want to climb down, you can probably pay someone a reasonable price ($25 USD)... More

This is a 15 km steep uphill hike on a gravel forest road up to the top of the Baru Volcano that offers little in the way of panoramic views (2 times), is very weather dependent (you can get on top and see nothing) and should be better and correctly advertised. As it is, most of it is on the... More

It's a no frills national park. Pay 5 bucks for parking at the trai Head and walk down a dirt road for a few Kim's before you hit the real trailhead to the volcano. It's the highest point in Panama so why not. Start about 3am. Don't pay a guide service to take you, just take a taxi or have... More

We left from the entrance (Boquete side) just before midnight (took the Mamallena shuttle, $5 pp), and it took us about 5,5 hours with some small breaks to reach the summit. We had a great sunrise (around 6AM), and left again at 7AM. It is cold on top, but not too cold (0-5 degrees Celsius). We took about 2 liters... More

It takes 2 hrs by a serious jeep to make it to the summit. Only 11 km, but a very rough trip. We were told to leave at 4am in order to watch the sun rise on 2 coasts. We elected to go later and the horizon was somewhat cloudy, yet we managed a peak at both oceans.

The dirt road leads to the top, the path is very difficult and exhausting if you are not physically ready you could have a problem with the hike. To the top of the volcano and back takes you a 27 kilometers.

We drove up in one of the specially modified jeeps. Having spent most of my life driving off road in sometimes extreme conditions I had yet to experience driving up a road that in places was just a pile of boulders. I went up with my children, one of whom was four years old. It was a fun drive, but... More

We knew that it was unlikely that we would be able to see both oceans at this time of year, but we were expecting somewhat of a view when we reached the top. What we found were ~15-20 radio/TV/cell towers and lots of garbage. It really ruined the atmosphere. I also have to say that the hike up was not... More

Let's be clear from the start: this is NOT a hiking trail. It's a road with deep ruts and lots and lots and lots of rocks. You never leave the road; you're stuck stepping on moving stones and figuring out how not to twist your ankle. It is almost entirely uphill from the Park Cabin at the entrance with a... More
