Having read about the history of the Yavari, it was good to see it in person, even although it was a short visit. Situated behind a hotel, it was not that easy to find.

We were fortunate that our tour guide, Manuel, had worked on this ship for nine years taking visitors out onto the lake. He escorted us around the whole ship, showed how it was being restored, its history (both brought up in pieces from the coast...More

We went to see this fascinating iron ship that was built in Birmingham and trekked to Puno but it is now closed until further notice. Apparently, They are turning it into a floating hotel.

I had wanted to see the Yavari since watching Michael Palin's programmes about the Pacific Rim. The story of her commission, building, transporting to Lake Titicaca is incredible. We got a taxi from the centre of Puno to the Hotel Liberatador where we could see...More

Only a volunteer donation is asked at the end. The history of this ship goes way back to 19th century and is being renovated and will turn into a hotel cruise soon. Crew was extremely nice.

Yes, it is open to visitors. Just ask for a taxi to take you there from the city center or from your hotel. The fare is not that much. It is well worth the short trip and is being beautifully restored.
