We took a half day trip ie 3 hours . To save money, we paid ten sols each for the trip by boat. Our vessel was rackety, but the company of Peruvians and a French couple made for a lively group. Arriving at the first Uros island, we were treated to a 'demonstation' by an island woman. Tourist stalls magically... More

We pre-booked a tour from Puno to visit the Uros islands as well as Taquille - well worth it. Theres really no better way to describe these than, its a floating island and its such a unique and interesting way to live so very different from our own. They are used to tourists coming to visit and the locals enjoy... More

Visit the islands on lake Titicaca where everything is made of the straws grown on the lake. Tour takes you to the people who live there, and you get to see how they do things, take a tour on their boats (made of straws) and overall enjoy a great few hours. Very memorable!

Essential part of the visit to Puno and no end to the number of trips on offer! Picked up from hotel, delivered to jetty, enthusiastic and helpful guide. Interesting time go the islands, something very unusual and a great insight into their way of life.Very touristy nonetheless.

It was interesting to visit these floating islands but it does feel like the whole culture has been exploited by tourism. It does feel authentic as a way of life but the tourism side of it is very prevalent. Even the children have been 'trained' to put bracelets onto the wrists of visitors so they feel compelled to buy them.... More

It was kind of cool to see these man-made reed islands and to learn how they are made and maintained. The whole experience was interesting, but it felt like a total tourist trap. I get that the people can only live by tourism but it just did not feel good at all. I was pounced upon by a woman as... More

These man-made floating islands are made of intertwined reeds, and they gently bob and sway in the lake. We took an excursion here from Titilaka and it was a highlight of the trip. So interesting to see this way of life.

We spent a night in hanan pacha Uros island. Was a great experience. We had a little reed house where we slept . The owner and his wife and friends prepared the dinner for us was so delicious was chicken with vegetables and we drank a coca tea. The next morning the owner made a breakfast for us and also... The "Lifestyle" on the Uros Floating Islands is FAKE but a little interesting. Nobody stays there. It's just a show for tourists.

The islands are a short, 20 minute trip from Puno and I would definitely recommend it. The people of Uros are lovely and welcoming - you won't get away without visiting their huts and being shown all their things. The people know basic, random English phrases (my favourite being 'hasta la vista baby!) but communication without a guide would be... More
