Make a day at Chan Chan, Museum, the ruins, Esmeralda, and Arco Iris. Kind of more of the same, but still interesting, More designs and interesting adobe wall works in the middle of Trujillo.

We went as part of a day tour of the sights around Trujillo. It was OK but I wouldn't bother to make special trip to see it. It's basically just a platform with designs on the walls and a larger wall around the whole thing. It's been restored and you can clearly see the restoration. But it some cases they... More

My tour of archaeological sites in and near Trujillo included this site. It is probably not worth more than about 30 minutes, but does have some unique iconography, which makes it worthwhile.

This is a small site....very small compared to Chan Chan. You can easily visit this in less than an hour. What's interesting here are the rainbow motifs (thus the Arco Iris name). With all the other sites between Trujillo and Chiclayo, this one wouldn't be high on the list. But if you're in the area, it's interesting to stop by.

Not a must see as it is on a much smaller scale to Chan Chan, however the reliefs are unique and in quite good condition. Because this small temple has been restored, it really gives you a good idea of how it appeared in ancient times.

Supposedly the same age as Chan Chan, this small temple has completely different drawings and architecture. One truncated pyramid (none at Chan Chan) and the lack of any sea-related iconography make me think they are very different and perhaps unrelated. This attraction is located within the city., and can probably be accessed by public transportation Tickets are not sold here.... More

This is a very small site and I imagine that it is added to most of the tours to help fill out the day. The site does have some nice murals and some interesting room like structures that surround it that have no openings or doors. Our guide indicated that they believe offerings were thrown into these rooms as they... More

These are small ruins on the edge of Trujillo - there are really nice carvings and a series of rooms that you can look down into. There are also nice views of the surrounding areas from the top of the ruins. I would only recommend going here as part of a tour (they are on a general ticket including better... More

The Huaca Arco-Iris (sometimes referred to as the Rainbow Pyramid) is a relatively small "pyramid" structure that has huge walls and some rainbow, serpent and warrior carvings. It has been significantly reconstructed and quite frankly, looks modern and almost fake. It can be toured in less than 15 minutes. Although it is included on the S/10 admission ticket to Chan... The site itself is very small and even a guide will speech less than 5 min to explain the goal of this site. But the site is in good shape and it is totally inside the city, behind a wall which seem like a abandoned square
