I went here for a short 1 or 2 hour tour to get to know more of the history of Iloilo city. We were warmly welcomed by a very entusiastic tour guide who was very well informed! He answered a lot of questions I had during the tour!
It is nice to get to know more about the history of Iloilo city. At the end we went to the top of the city hall to have a view on Iloilo city. View was a bit dissapointing though.
If interested in Iloilo and or history in general you could go here. Orherwise you can skip it. Credits for the very enthusiastic tour guide!

To anyone impressed with the progress and vibrance of Iloilo City, need to visit the seat of its local government - the new Iloilo City Hall. The structure is recently built, thus modern by the city's infrastructure. In front will be Plaza Libertad, where one can see an old Train Locomotive used by the Panay railway System before.
Note: The New City Hall partly sits on the site of the old central station of the Panay Railways.

The new city hall has a mini-museum that showcases the history of Iloilo , the Dinagyang costume that one can put on for a photo shoot, the bust statues of mayors from different regime. The friendly staff would really make you feel at home and would guide you to go to the 7th floor to see the view of the whole city including Guimaras Island.
It's worth the visit.

The first time that I went here I was referred by my colleague that the city hall has a superb view of the the Iloilo River from it's roof deck. And all i need to do is to register in the front desk and a tour guide will entertain you. So i tagged along my friend from out of town for a quick tour and we enjoyed the view and the tour itself. The second visit was a disaster, i brought my boss based from Manila for a quick tour. And now the tour guide was now familiar to me and I to him. Since i visited already twice. But he was busy entertaining guests before us so we didn't actually mind that. But of course my guest was eager to listen and ask questions about the history of Iloilo. But he apprehended my request by stating, "You can tour your friend on your own since you've been here already". I was appalled and didn't mind at all. So we decided to do our cruise on our own. However when we asked the tour guide to accompany us upstairs for the view at the roof top. He refused again by saying, "I'm afraid i can't join you since I need to man this place and no one will be left behind to see the gallery. Actually you can go on your own. You know this place already right?". And so we exited the gallery and left the City of Love's City Hall. Totally a bad experience, I've been to a lot of museums and galleries all over the Philippines but never in my life i felt so small and rude upon by a tour guide. Worst, my boss was disappointed with the experience. I felt humiliated and discriminated. I think the mayor should correct the behavior of his employee. He should not be working for public service and to think I am a very honest tax payer of the city. This tour guide usually advertises his resort business by giving out flyers to his guests.

A helpful city employee guided me up to the top floor from which there were nice views of the Iloilo River, but apart from a local church I could not see any others. I asked at the information desk when I was in - the guide took about five minutes to arrange so be patient.

A contrast of new and old, modern and past, Iloilo City Hall departs from the likes of Vigan and Zamboanga which kept with tradition of restoring the old to adapt with the community. Iloilo City Hall building is ultra modern with architectural touch of old roman (in an attempt to combine the designs of historical Masonic Temple Building in Plaza Libertad, the Aduana, and the UP Visayas Library Building). It stands modernly elegant amid one of the oldest colonial community trying to restore some remnants of history to reclaim heritage glory.
A bit confusing? Those in government may have something in mind some people may not seem to comprehend... Artistry? An statement of sort? Interests? Who knows ...?
The building looks stunning from outside and equally impressive inside. Iloilo's growth and development in the outskirt districts of Molo, Mandurriao, Jaro, La Paz, Lapuz, and Villa Arevalo may be reflective of the seat of government and may have been placed well ahead of modernization of the Iloilo-Guimaras Metropolitan Area. Prudence dictates that bigger and modern facility is needed.
Restoration of the heritage Iloilo City proper, however, may have been great to include original government buildings instead of dismantling them. Old structures should have been restored, retrofitted for other purpose if found unfit for present needs of offices. Bacolod, Dapitan, Calapan City are few examples where the seat of government were relocated while the old structures were retained. A new and modern City Hall should have been built somewhere along the districts of development and keep the old iloilo a center for tourism, culture and the arts.
Well .. it has been done. History will tell the generations to come.

Museo Iloilo is beside the City Hall Building, and the neglected Arroyo Fountain is in the middle of the rotonda near City Hall.

This building houses the office of the city mayor and is one of the easily recognizable structures in the city (being in front of two locally famous spots: the Plaza Libertad and the San Jose Parish Church). This is where people come to transact business requiring government permits, etc. In itself, it is not really a tourist spot. There is nothing particularly interesting inside the building.

you can see people from all walks of life in the city hall. aside from that, the building is also complete with all you need to see in a travel. a public desk office, a library, a museum, and a mess hall where they serve (i daresay) great food. ranging from ilonggo delicacies to fruits.

Surprised to see a new City Hall building in Iloilo City. I have been away for many years and only returned now. But more importantly, the government employees working there are efficient, helpful and friendly. No longer a place where your nerves are tested to limit when you try to process something. Crowded but transactions are facilitated as quickly as they can.
