The structure is huge and imposing. The setting is nice - in the middle of the square. You can rest a little on one of the benches near-bye or visit the cathedral.

One of the very nice monuments in Cluj Napoca, in a great piazza with the national theather and an orthodox cathedral facing one to each other.

Avram Iancu was a local hero - a lawyer by occupation and a revolutionist by spirit, who led an uprising in Transilvania against the Hungarians, forming alliance with the Austrians. His statue rises high above the square and overshadows it. Impressing! We stayed in Beyfin Hotel on the 4th floor where we could see the statue every morning when we woke up. It was right ahead!

Horrible monument, one of the worst I had ever seen (second place after the impaled potato in center of Bucharest). Just a symbol of the fanatic nationalism of the former mayor Gheorghe Funar.

The monument is located between the Orthodox Cathedral and the National Theater. Often craftsmen fairs are held here.
The monument can be accessed by bus (1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 24, 24B, 25, 30, 32, 32B, 46) , station Opera or Regionala CFR. There is a taxi station nearby. 10-15 min walk from the St. Mihail Church.

If you're looking for a piece of art, don't come to see this statue. But if you're looking for a good example of nationalistic kitsch, it's a must see. Quite a shame that this statue is to be found in one of the most beautiful squares of Cluj.

As a person who grew up in Cluj, I hate this monument. Unfortunately the politician politicized the removal of the monument and is still there in a beautiful place in Cluj. Avram Iancu was a great Romanian hero, but his depiction is horrible, I call this monument the Cluj baseball player. The "alpenhorns" look like baseball bats. The monument was created during the sinister times in the nineties when the mayor of Cluj was the Nationalist right with politician named Funar, who deeply damaged the architecture of Cluj.

I never liked this "monument". It is to big and the position of this monument is inappropriate.
Yes it is a national hero, and yes is from this part of the country...but still, they could came up with something ...more than this.

The Avram Iancu Monument in front of the Assumption Cathedral is well worth a visit with its colorful fountain, especially in the evenings
