The Saint George square is situated in Timisoara's center between the "Libertatii square" and the Continental hotel.
It is a recent addition to the city - only 100 years old - until 1914 here was standing the Saint George church - that got demolishes and a bank building that can be seen on the side of the square took up half of the space of the square.
In this square there is also the house where Georg Klapka was born - hero of the Hungarian war of independence of 1848-1849 , his mostly known for the heroic defense of the city of Komarom - on the house there is a bilingual commemorative plaque.
Also from this square departed the first horse towed tram of Timisoara in 1869.
The Saint George statue that can be seen today is very recent, it got erected in 1996 commemorating the Romanian revolution of 1989 and the victory over the Communist regime.
Recent works - 2016-2017- in the city have unveiled old walls from the city in this square and those got covered in concrete.
So for those of you into history it can give quite a lot ... Also for the those into architecture, the secession style buildings with the decorations can be also very interesting.
Overall if you are visiting Timisoara I recommend you stop here for a few minutes and take some picture - its more to it than meets the eye at a first glance.

There are many interesting things to see in Timisoara. St. George's Square is not among them! If you find it by chance when you visit Unirii Square, then yes, stay 5 minutes and view the statue, then go to Victoria Square. There you have what to see!

When compared to other squares in Timisoara, this one looks quite simple small. But, regardless of this fact, you should visit this place, since it's anyway situated in the center of the city. Don't expect too much.
