A very nice building -standing since 1865 - inaugurated by the Emperor Franz Joseph I 7 years later the emperor of the Austrian Hungarian Empire - thus once again proving how important the city of Timisoara has been for the Empire (in the end it wasn't called "Little Vienna" for nothing ...).
Also it is important to say that this is one of the 3 Synagogues that are still standing in Timisoara , the city that used to have a strong Jewish community. Nowadays there are almost no more Jewish people in the city - under 1000 at least.
So the building has been recently undergone a refurbishment process - so the brick building done in eclectic style with Moorish elements shines again brightly.
Unfortunately is not open to go inside - I live in Timisoara for more than 10 years but I never found it open...
Maybe next year - I hope ... we'll see ... till than the experience is dimmed by this lack of access.

This synagogue is really beautiful, but currently under construction. I would definitely recommend walking by and seeing it, but unfortunately, that's about all you can do right now.

impressive construction, well renowned
it has a laic function, we found it hosting a painting exposition; the expo reminded us of Vasarely, somehow
relevant info could be found on the panel, outside
I would like more info regarding the Jewish minority, its history; even a guide could be useful

By fortunate the synagogue can be admire from outside for the moment because is in reconstruction, which means that will be in the future probably open for the public. You still can imagine from outside how wonderful the interior was in the glory epoch of his construction. I hope the restorers will return his great beauty.
