The Monument to the Conquerors of Space was erected at Prospekt Mira in Moscow. This outstanding city landmark has been jointly designed by architects Michail Barsh and Andrey Kolchin, and sculptor Andrey Faydish-Krandiyevskiy. September 28th, 1967 Soviet government initiates founding of the Museum of Cosmonautics at the foot of the Monument to the Conquerors of Space to commemorate nation's achievements in space exploration. The Museum of Cosmonautics opens its doors to public on April 10th, 1981, 20th Anniversary of the first manned space flight. Museum exposition gives a retrospect on how Soviet space science evolved starting from first man-made satellites subsequently followed by the first manned space flight, first space walks, Moon exploration programs, Solar system exploration programs and international space research programs. Intricate interior design and unusual exposition altogether created a unique individuality of the Museum. However, new times set new standards. 25 years since its first opening the Museum has been closed down for a massive renovation. Now the Museum shows all the newly accumulated information and latest technologies.

We found the Space Museum a good attraction however, on a lot of exhibitions, there was only translation in Russian so we didn't have a clue what the attraction was about?? I think if they address this, my rating would have been excellent. The monument outside is literally "out of this world"

I highly recommend this important museum. While there are countless cathedrals, icons, red square etc history in Moscow, but this is also a place you must go! It is extremely well done and there is lots to see. It is an extensive collection of pieces and photos from the Soviet Space program. They tell a great story, and the captions... More

I love this museum very much. Visited it several times. The ticket price is very small, some days the entrance is free, the museum itself is beautiful, especially the installation of workplaces for scientists. There are always few people so you can calmly enjoying reading all the plates. Nearby there is VDNKh, where you can relax after the museum.

Having also visited the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum plus the Kennedy Space Centre, this is a comparatively small exhibition. It is worth visiting though as we certainly learned about some little known interesting Soviet inputs to space exploration. You will still need half a day to do it justice. The exterior is also quite impressive. The café is not... More

This museum is worth a visit just to learn about how brave the cosmonaughts were and how basic thecequipment is. Easy to get too on the orange metro line. The museum takes about 90 minutes to go around. Good for a rainy day activity.

After having visited space museum in Houston and Cape Canaveral, is this Russian space museum a disappointment. Of course you see typical Russian space vessels, but the lay-out of the museum and the guiding tours are of low quality.

A wonderful experience - had a very knowledgeable young guide who answered all our questions, and gave us time to look and enjoy without rushing. I think a guide is important unless you know a lot about space equipment and history of space exploration. Some English translations on exhibits, not all. The building architecture is amazing. Did not spend time... More

Lots of local Muscovites bring their children here–the place to learn more about Yuri Gagarin and Russian's space and scientific explorations in space.

I work in the aerospace industry and have been meaning to visit this museum for a while. It so happened that I got to visit it with two of my coworkers and we all were impressed. It only costs $5 to get in and you can get an audio guide in English for another $5. The museum doesn't look that... More
