This cathedral is strikingly beautiful on the inside. Of course, it's great on the outside too, but it is so worth going for a visit. You're not allowed to take pictures on the inside, so I have none to share, but I would go back and take my friends. It's definitely worth it. The architecture is fantastic on the outside... More

It was not as impressive as I thought. St. Basil's is a far better sight to see. Still, if you have a bit of extra time, it would be worth seeing but not when you are pressed for time.

This is a must see place if you are visiting Moscow. A beautiful Cathedral that you would regret not seeing. Only make sure, you see the Cathedral both inside and out and but souvenirs from the small shop nearby.

I've been in a lot of Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in Moscow, this is the nicest. For a start, it's bigger, more spacious and there's plenty of light, it's got a really high ceiling. There's the usual wall of painted icons, candles and painted pictures of saints. There's no pews in Eastern Orthodox churches, the congregation stands. It's free to enter... More

On the day we visited, a Mass was taking place which was very educational. You know the congregation stands during mass . . . The building was lovely.

The exterior of this Cathedral is as interesting as the inside. There are huge and wonderful statues of important religious scenes and people on the upper portions of the outside of the church. The inside has beautiful mosaics and religious relics. It is still a working cathedral that is for the faithful so women are expected to cover their heads... More

By day it stands proud atop a hill, by night it is lit for all to see. Inside there are wonderful paintings and treasures, and you forget that it is still a working church. Free to enter, don't miss this if you're Moscow way

This is a newly rebuilt building but you can't imagine that since the very first minute you see it, is a huge place with two levels (don't forget to visit the basement) this place has some saint's relics and is a very important place for the local orthodox christians, it was a great experience to be there during the mass,... This Cathedral is still being used for services and hence photos are not allowed. It's also a main church used by the President, etc. Worth a. Visit to admire the interior.

I did not want to get off the bus and so glad that I did. It was breathtaking. I also realized this is still an active church with parents and children coming and going. I hope to visit again. The 45 minutes allowed by our American tour company was to short. We only spent a few minutes on the pedestrian... More

Staying in Khamovniki

Neighbourhood Profile
Khamovniki
Khamovniki could be considered a city of its own – here it’s possible to find some of Moscow’s most important cultural institutions such as the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the Novodevichy Convent and Trubetskikh Estate, great sport locations such as Luzhniki stadium and aqua complex, and long and beautiful Luzhniki embankment. Pick your preferred form of transport to explore the area – bicycle or river cruise during the summer and taxi in winter as many of the great places are situated beyond a short walk.
