I normally skip museum but this one was different, a must see place in St petersburg. Its huge and needs lots of time. Amazing collection of paintings, crafts, artifacts, well organised but entry may take time. Better to come around noon.

There's lots of things to see here. Plan for a long visit so you don't have to rush, use the self service machine instead of the ticket office which is a lot faster.

You should spend around day or two there, building is not that huge but detail in each room are fascinating. Go early for ticket because the line is long. Each room have it's own story, some show original some show art from other region.

we were able to leave, grab a bite and return but our tickets were purchased by our guide and I dont know if they were an ordinary ticket. I do know that we used a special entrance and did not stand in line.
