It's a historical canvas in its own right the works of art are almost incidental. Ignore the statistics of it taking years to see everything just give yourself plenty of time to spend lots of time there. Preferably go in the winter when you will not be swept along by the crowds. Get a good guide and plan what you... More

Wonderful collection and lovely staff are at this museum. I fell in love with Russian artworks and staffs here. It's a top-tier and must-visit place in the world!

The place is totally worth seeing! We had only 3 hours, which is not enought. The winter palace is so beautiful! There is also other building included to the Hermitage, but almost all our time was in the Winter palace. Even my boyfriend said this was his favorite place in Saint Petersbourg, and he doesen't normally even like museums. We'll... More

We visited the Hermitage with a private guide early in the day. The crowds had not yet arrived and we had a wonderful visit.

The museum cannot be explored in one day, so its better to get a multi-day pass to appreciate everything. We also had a guide so if you have the chance to get one, better do so since it helps to have someone explain the history behind the works as compared to just looking around. Be there as early as you... More

I am not a museum kind of guy but wife wanted to go. We went at 10 am and left at closing. Would take 2-3 days to see all there is to see. More Greek/Roman statures than in Greece / Italy. You can literally touch the displays. This museum has everything from the Czars to Egyptian mummies, Totally an amazing... More

Similarly to the Louvre, the saying goes... if you were to spend a minute looking at each exhibit on display in the Hermitage, you would need 11 years before you’d see everything. Just know that only a very tiny percentage of art and paintings is on display, the rest in storage and of the items on display, you will only... More

The Hermitage Museum probably isn't the best art gallery in the world. A handful of others might have better works, depending on how you judge these things. But the Hermitage probably is in the top 10, and it probably has more quality items than any other art museum. That means that it's an amazing experience to walk through, and you'll... More

This place gets really busy. We booked ahead for an early morning tour with a private guide. We didn't see it all, just highlights, and the guide got us through ahead of the crowds. Amazing art, and I could easily see some people spending many days there if cost was not a concern. .
