If you are an art lover go to the Russian Museum. Specious place, in a beautiful building. Hold a very interesting art collection of ancient and modern Russian art. Worth the visit!!!

Particularly loved the Soviet and Russian revolution style art, a culture told through its paintings, more than just pictures on the walls...

I wish many of the artists here were instead in the Hermitage so we could see how east-west influenced each other. It is organized by mostly a 1 artist per room basis, allowing a good look at many Russian artists who I did not know...More

The impressive palace alone is worth a visit. The museum is huge and really interesting. One should not try to see as much as possible, but focus on some point of interest, otherwise it can be overwhelming. I recommend the art of the XXth Century,...More

This museum contains an obviously extensive collection of Russian art and artefacts, worth visiting for the Rublev icons alone. The wooden toys at the very end of the museum are also interesting.

The Hermitage is superb, of course, but it contains mostly Western European art. Almost all the Russian art is here at the Russian Museum. Here you’ll see stuff you are less likely to see elsewhere.

Yes there is a cloak-room, and they will store small luggage. I'm not sure if they'll accept suitcases or larger bags. Didn't see any.
