I wisited this building of the Hermitage complex to view the impressionist paintings, and i was not disappointed. Both this and the other buildings have so much beautiful art in them that i could have spent weeks looking at it! Both the building and the exhibitions are great.

The General Staff Building is one of the Hermitage branches. It can be visited with a ticket which you bought in the main complex of the museum. The sizes of the building, huge rooms, lots of light impressed me. The exhibition mainly consist of pictures, several pieces of Faberge factory and some entertaining temporary exhibitions. And of course the Impressionists!!... More

We visited this building to view the Hermitage's impressionist art collection and initially were disappointed with what we saw. We had to wend our way through a maze of corridors and small rooms to eventually find artwork which was to our taste (and we were impressed). Dotted throughout were various other interesting displays of furniture and textiles. We were astounded... More

Included in my 2 day pass ticket from the Hermitage we explored the General Staff Building (across the Palace Square from the Hermitage). We went early and had the place almost to ourselves (compared to the crowds at the Winter Palace). In contrast to the Hermitage the interior is much simpler so the art stands out. I felt that I... The General Staff Building, part of the vast Hermitage complex, is located across Palace Square opposite the Winter Palace. You will immediately notice the grand façade as the west and east wings are joined by a tripartite crowned with a sculpture of the Goddess of Glory in her Chariot of Victory. We visited to see the Impressionist collection (moved here... More

We visited this museum right after visiting the Hermitage. The ticket price is low. It has a lot of paintings of the XIX and XX century. These are in addition to many masterpieces not as well known outside of Russia due to restrictions during the Soviet era. The interior is modern, bright and spacious. A wonderful modern gallery in a... More

I arrived in the night, and s my friend drove me around I could not help it being impressed with the way the buildings are lighted in the night. I even wrote mu withe that, in the night, this was the nicest city I have ever seen. People wise, there is a huge difference between those here and those in... More

If you are in St. Petersburg it is highly recommended to visit the new branch of the Hermitage - the so called General Staff Building. It is situated just across Dvortsovaya Square opposite the Hermitage. The building itself is a magnificent creation of architect Rossi in 1820. In the 19-th century it housed not only the military General Staff but... More

it has been converted into yet another museum to handle the overflow from the Hermitage. I have never seen so many Picassos and other French Impressionists ever before. It was another staggering venue.
