If you have the time, walk or bike (bike rental can be found at a few stops along the wall) around the top of the ancient wall. The juxtaposition between the ancient wall and modern day skyscrapers is quite impressive. There are also points of information and historical anecdotes around the top of the wall which are interesting to read.

I was here alone in the hot day. It wasn't comfortable, that's why I spent here only one hour. You can take bicycle for a rent, because the distance is very long for walking by legs. Here are always beautiful sunsets. I think, this place is perfect for friends' or family's walking. And it's romantic too. Also you can buy... More

The city wall is a great way to spend a half day. I would recommend renting a bike as walking the entire wall could take a few hours especially if stopping to take photos. The cycle can be a bit bumpy but it's flat so totally doable even if you don't cycle regularly. They will ask for a deposit for... More

It is incredible to see it in such a good state and be able to go aroung it riding a bicycle. There is even a bicycle museum in the different defense towers along the wall which are not necessarily known to the public. You can go down the wall and into the market where you can find rice paper and... More

The city wall in Xian is a must to visit. Truly ancient China, it brings you back to hundreds years ago.

I had a very enjoyable evening at the Lantern Festival , dating back to the Han dynasty , the Lantern Festival is a very important aspect of the Chinese New year. Lanterns come in all shapes & sizes including those shaped like animals .The rooster being very prominent. Walking these ancient walls , seeing the local people enjoying themselves made... More

We were visiting in September, and even though we tried to get up to the wall early to walk it, we still got hot and exhausted. If you are going in the hot months, get yourself an umbrella to block the sun, go early, and take water with you.

We only spent an hour or so on the walls but would have liked to have walked or cycled the whole circuit. They are very impressive and amazing that in a country where so much of the past has been destroyed to find them still intact. Well done to the Xian planners!

Interesting wall around the city. The wall can be walked around or a bike can be rented. Comfortable shoes should be wear due to the distance if one decides to walk the entire wall.

Great views of the city and a special place to visit. You can really feel what it must have been like for soldiers to be up there protecting the city.
