Maruyama Park is a park in Chūō-ku of Sapporo. The park was modeled after the same namesake as that in Kyoto. We alighted at Mauroyama Koen sta on Tozai Line..

Just a short 5 mins walk and we reached here, light drizzle in mid-autumn. The park is home to a few attractions such as the Hokkaidō Shrine, the Maruyama Zoo and the Maruyama Baseball Stadium.

Near the entrance there is a small office and the interesting short tower clock that show the temperature ; 8 deg. We walked towards the direction of 北海道神宮

Vast greeneries and many stopped to admire the surrounding. Probably there are varieties of Magnolia, Maple trees in this designated natural monument. On the hillside of the park, there are giant Elm and Cypress trees where different bird species gather. With over 1,500 sakura trees the park is the most popular hanami place in the city of Sapporo.

The Hokkaidō Shrine located at the north end of the park, opened on 1869, is the most important Shinto shrine of the City

Came here in a sunny day in early spring when sakura started blooming, making the park looked beautiful in red, pink and any colour that the season could offer. We recommend to take a half day (at least) to explore the area, including the Hokkaido shrine, the Maruyama zoo, and the local shops.

It was really an excellent surprise that I could still catch some really beautiful cherry blossom here in May.
The Hokkaido Jingu was closed when I visited the park in late afternoon. But it was still a very pleasant walk to the Jingu main gate.
Some amazing tulips in the park as well.

I visited Maruyama Park during February and there was so much snow here. I mainly came to see the temples and pine trees blanketed in snow and it did not disappoint. The paths for the most part were clear but you still walk on snow, so come prepared. There were many people here enjoying the various snow activities. Me, I just enjoyed the Winter Wonderland. I believe this park is beautiful any time of year, but glad I came during the winter.

A great park to visit, particularly in the fall when the leaves on the trees are turning colors. Despite the numerous (apparently aggressive) birds that flock the area, this seems like a great place to enjoy a picnic and many tables are available.

I went to see the cherry blossoms so I did not explore the rest of the park like I should have. A pleasant walk trails are well marked. There were a lot people in and around the temple so I avoided that area. I will return when it’s not so crowded to see more of the park maybe this summer.

Maruyama Park is easily accessible from the nearest subway station;- Maruyama Koen (Station T06 on the Tozai Subway Line). Visiting the Hokkaido Jingu Shinto Shrine in January, I decided to trek through the Park itself on the way back from the Shrine, but it was a little difficult getting ones bearings when everything looks the same blanketed in snow. Hardly surprising therefore that after wandering through this winter wonderland, and too many left turns, I ended up back where I started at the 2nd Shrine Gate.

Having been born and raised in a tropical country a visit to Maruyama Park is a dream come true. While walking inside the park, I never thought I will be seing this kind of scenery - walking along a snow covered pathway, trees covered with snow and everywhere you look the place is covered with snow. It’s so beautiful!!!

Worth to visit, and a must visit for get Fortune in the new year. Good view, especially in the snowy winter season. So many snacks stalls as well, so no worries for hungry stomach nor get cold. There's a warm sake 🍶 sold.
