It's a steep walk to get here with some nice views, but permanent collection is currently closed - didn't bother with temp exhibition which is scale models of the city.

We got lucky as there was a great exhibition on while we there, the manga and paintings by Tiger Tateishi and Yuchi Yokohama. Our teenage children loved these works. It was also a lovely stroll up the hill to the museum, with Autumn leaves still around.

Usual story for museums of contemporary art. great building design and some interesting exhibits by warhol etc but most father new exhibits are emperors new clothes and could be done by GSCe art students ( and that is doing the students a disfavour) . not worth the trek up but maybe if you are on a hop on hop off... The main reason to come is to look down from the elevation and see Hiroshima city and wonder at the devastation last century. The building is good, but the location is dreadful for it. No vantage to truly observe it. Reasonable collection. Doesn't blow your mind though,

Some of the work is inspired by the A-Bomb. Otherwise, seeing Warhol Campbell mushroom soup tins in Hiroshima seems a bit pointless to me. The Le Courbusier (spelling?) models of buildings were interesting for my architect-father in law. Could have easily missed it.

We were attracted by a special exhibition ("The world is strange: the manga and paintings of Tiger Tateishi and Yuchi Yokohama") which was outstanding. The exhibits from the museum's regular collection were also excellent. This is one of the most accessible and enjoyable modern art museums I have visited. Highly recommended.

First of all, they have a nice sculpture garden, and it is very serene & peaceful. Their permanent collection is quite interesting, and I caught an exhibit by a Vietnamese artist that was great. The museum is easily accessible by the hop-on, hop-off bus.

We went to the hill where the museum is situated on the tour bus that you can hop on and off, it is part of the privileges you have with your JR pass. We had spend much time at the Peace Memorial museum and park and wanted to see other areas of the city. We were able to see a... More

I'm not a contemporary art expert but I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. In August they had an extensive exhibition on art created in response to the atomic bomb as well as art created around the period of Sino-Japanese and WW2 wars. It gave an amazing perspective on the local response and reflection of these wars. This is nothing like... More

The museum is located next to a park so it's a good place to stay for a leisure morning or afternoon. It is quite close to the train station; I took a local bus and walked through the Hijiyama Sky Walk to arrive at the museum and then left the place using the Sightseeing Loop bus back to the train...
