Kaki tie was fascinating. He had excellent paintings and we enjoyed them. The museum gave a good overview of Kobe's history especially the western settlement and the opening of the port. However being Kobe's museum we expected a more comprehensive coverage of everything that represents Kobe.

Interesting museum detailing Japan and Kobe's history of interaction with other cultures, from ancient artifacts through more modern objects from the mid-1800s on. Also some fascinating artwork showing the intersection of Japanese and Western technique. English signage is quite good, and the building itself is lovely. An excellent and worthy stop, especially on a rainy day.

I visited this museum as part of my day with a local Goodwill volunteer guide and it was wonderful. It was a very slow day and we were treated to a personal tour led by a staff member and two docents; indeed they were so thrilled with my interest they also took me on a tour of the neighborhood to... It is not too big. You can understand the history of Kobe in a half-day. The exhibition is understandable. Some old things are fantastic.

Don't miss this museum. Its very central and only a 10-12 minute walk from the Sannomya central JR railway station. The permanent exhibitions deal with the city's history and in particular with the international cultural, social and business that Kobe has been noted forThere are descriptions and captions available in English and I'd advise visitors also to check the Museum's... Went to see the 2nd last day of the Hokusai exhibit, which was lovely. It was crazy busy, so I think we spent around 3 hrs, in what could've easily been done in 1 hr. But it was worth it!
